Their is such a thing as keeping collateral to a minimum you know, yes, there are plenty of reasons why the police would want to do this to the protesters vehicles, but the loss in PR in the eyes of non-protesting citizens when they slash someone's tires that's not even involved in the protest makes it a bad move, because it legitimizes the propaganda the anti-police crowd spread that police are brutish and self serving.
They would be better suited to bringing out water cannons and giving out warning for the non-protesting public to clear the streets well in advance, before spraying down anyone dumb enough to remain in the streets.
In the end, it's all about doing the right thing and good PR. Sure the police have the high ground at the moment, but when the opposition is grasping at straws to even find a legitimate demand for their protest beyond, 'screw and defund the cops!' that isn't exactly difficult.
By lowering themselves by slashing non-protesters vehicles the average joe watching them at home are perceiving the police to be destroying innocents property, which is exactly the same thing the looters are doing.
Don't give the devil a inch or he will take a mile, especially when it comes to PR.

In fact everything they do including bending over will just motivate them.
I can't fault them when it's part of their job to stop a riot. They're cracking it's gone out of control with cuck politicians handicapping them with fewer options to do their job.
They didn't just slash tires they destroyed protestor/riot supply stations to stop them getting a rest.
Having the moral high ground is only as relevant as one's ability to use it to generate good PR. Unfortunately that ability is rather lacking when most of the news media is stumbling over itself to try and make the rioters look good. The people already on the rioter's side won't change their minds just because the police act nice. The people rooting for the police to bring the riots to an end are also unlikely to change their minds and willing to accept some collateral damage in bringing that about. Very few people's opinion is going to change as a result of this stunt. And if it does turn out to be effective at disrupting rioters, I'd expect to see a lot more shredded tires in the near future.

Well, that's one way to increase the chances of getting themselves all killed. Because for some reason I doubt they have the trigger discipline or mentality not to open fire in a tense standoff. So I can't quite say I dislike them doing it, after all them dying is one way to ensure they never bother anyone again. Though hopefully without managing to get anyone else killed.
