Boomstick's and shooty shooty bang bang's - The GUN Thread!

https://www.the-sietch.com/index.ph...ding-ideas-the-imperial-union-of-brazil.7249/ so since I like my fiction being at surface level resemble reality, I wanted to ask you guys on what would be a realistic future assault rifle, pistol and shotguns IF YOU HAD unlimited budget to design and produce them ?

Gonna need to think on this one for a bit before I get back to you. Can you offer any further details, like who would be manufacturing them, what the purpose or role of any of the particular firearms would be and who they're getting sold to, etc.?

Israel. Russia and CIS.

Sold to Brazilian fighting an invanding army.

It's not an export version. It's the real deal, same gun that they get.

Purpose of the rifles and guns : easy to build, reload, little to no recoil. Large possibility of attachments.

Think of 5 minutes into the future instead of the 20 Minutes into the Future - TV Tropes

5 minutes in, it's going to be a variant of some existing weapon, in Brazil's case probably the IMBEL IA2, with some fancy future optics.

This a bit vague. Maybe a bit more on layman terms ? I am a gun expert as much as I am tank expert.

I am not

1. Caseless ammo is ammo where the propellant for the bullet isn't contained in a metallic case like modern bullets, instead the propellant is basically molded into a sold block that replaces the case. In theory it's lighter than normal rounds. The problem is no one's quite managed to get it working right.
2. Force equals mass times acceleration. Most counties don't want to switch calibers to ones with a larger, heavier round, so the way to increase firepower is too make the same sized bullet go faster. Downside is since bullets are propelled by the propellant exploding, making a new kind of propellant that explodes with more force means the gun needs to be able to handle the increased pressure from a more powerful explosion.
3. I think this is thing bullethead was talking about.
4. Lighter guns are more affected by recoil, as would a gun with more powerful rounds, and depending on how much recoil is produced, you might need something to compensate for it. Like the caseless ammo and new propellant, it's not something anyone's really working at the moment.

@bullethead graciously redirected me here !

IMHO it'll be pretty much what we've got now but with better design details to make them more reliable and less fussy.

Take the Winchester M1897 fr'ex. That's the "Trench Gun" and one of the best 12-gauge pump-action shotguns ever designed.

If you're thinking basically 5 minutes into the future, you'll just have to decide on a manufacturer and pick a weapon you like from them, because anything new would take a while to develop. If that's what you want, then you'll want to look at manufacturers who will be more likely to produce something "futuristic" for another country. Some examples I can think of off hand are FN Herstal, H&K, and CZ come to mind (provided CZ is still making military weaponry).

I was thinking of IWI though I Heard the TAVOR line does have a couple of flaws.

I know they have a mockup design for a Tavor successor, called the Meron, but AFAIK, there are no functional versions of it:

I have that same grip on my Tavor X95. It’s a little beefy but I’ve got large hands, and it’s actually quite comfortable so suits me just fine. I believe they do offer interchangeable grip plates for it though to adjust the grip width if you need it.

My reasoning for using this type of grip in said fictional rifle is that it would be easier to use, hold and not loose it.

For this fictional assault rifle I also though about a feeding like this one FN P90 - Wikipedia

I read about revolution on polish lands in 1905 - and accidentally discovered very interesting pistol.Normally socialist used Browning, but when some fragile womans wonted to murder policeman, they used this :
Gaulois palm pistol,in all its glory:

For our European bretheren who are blessed enough to live in countries allowing the sale of semi-auto rifles to civilians, I have good news - HS Produckt may sell you a rifle:

you'd have to use a particular sort of ammunition that's still experimental and unproven.
Well, it's somewhat proven (maybe not the 6.8mm version)... just not formally adopted anywhere.

That said, it's definitely still experimental until it gets formally adopted by any nation.

The P90's feed mechanism won't work if you try to just scale it up and try to run conventional rifle rounds through it, you'd have to use a particular sort of ammunition that's still experimental and unproven.

Ok what type of ammo should I use ? I was thinking of a big capacity, using Russian ammo.

I admit I am not making life easier for you guys since my worldbuilding involves Russian-Israeli alliance to help Brazil.
