Battletech BattleTech discussion thread: May the light of Hanse Davion guide us

PsihoKekec

Swashbuckling Accountant
To keep Nordic naming, being half one and half another mech, maybe name it Hel, who is half dead and half alive.

Unfortunately the Loki II is officially called the Hel within the clans.
Should have really checked the Sarna before I typed that, I thought they kept the Hellbringer name for Loki.
What about Wulfenbach? Klaus Wulfenbach (from Girl Genius) is stitched together from parts of three mad scientist brothers who were turned into chunky salsa in an experiment gone horribly wrong, with grieving parents (also mad scientists) using the salvageable body parts to put together a functional son.

So, I was recently at gencon, and snapped a few photos of thier big battletech diorama, including this one:

At first, it was just another picture, but then I spotted something, what is that mech down in the city?

Those wide arms, the curved head, that distinctive, dad-bod shaped torso, it could only be one thing, an annihilator. But it couldn't be, because the annihilator wasn't part of the kickstarter.

And indeed it wasn't, it's instead part of a special exclusive Wolf's Dragoon force pack available only for pre-orders from a single retailer.....Barnes & Noble, who are still in business somehow.

Also, new stuff from Iron Wind.
The Sojourner, a new can mech with AES in one arm used to assist the primary weapon:

The archer 9W, which is different from the other archers they have in some way. Allegedly.

And the Goliath C, which is a clan tech Goliath:

It also appears to have been beaten with the ugly stick rather severely. Hopefully that's just the photo.

The poor Goliath just can't win. Once it was a decapitated giraffe, now it's an anteater wearing platform shoes.

I dug up a old purchase I made a while back. the 25th edition battletech introductory box set. 24 Intro tech mechs and 2 "premium" mechs a Loki and Thor in prime configurations. on the 1 hand it was definitely a great buy in terms of number of mechs at the time. on the other hand getting 5 40 ton mechs is a bit more than I would personally pick out.
list of mechs is
1 Thor
1 Loki
1 Atlas
1 Banshee
1 Cyclops
1 Awesome
1 Zeus
1 Grasshopper
1 Catapult
1 Jagermech
1 Dragon
1 Quickdraw
1 Dervish
1 Trebuchet
1 Hunchback
1 Enforcer
1 Vindicator
1 Cicada
1 Assassin
1 Hermes 2
1 Clint
1 Whitworth
1 Panther
1 Jenner
1 Spider
1 Commando
2 play mats
there were some instructions and dice but those were lost. sculpts are a bit meh (not 100% on if it is a Hermes or a Hermes 2 arm and head look more like a hermes 2 and identifying the Quickdraw took me a bit) but they were super cheap at the time. does anyone have some ideas on a relatively even lance v lance battle out of this list?

If you use introtech and don't use the clan mechs, it should be fairly even as long as you keep the overall mix of weight classes between the lances the same.

To be fair, those miniatures were much lower quality than currently being done by CGL's kickstarter and follow-on releases.
at that price point I have no problem with the quality. might need to re base them at some point but at something like $2-$3 a model (don't remember the exact price at the time) I have no real complaints.

The Zhukov AU has some really good fan TROs.

Thanks for posting that, I'd stumbled onto a while ago and meant to post a link, but forgot to.

As for the TROs themselves.....I dunno. I'm a much bigger fan of the modeling side of the hobby vs the game, so seeing a bunch of really nice artwork, designs, lore, etc all come together obly to be capped off with "and if you want to actually use this one the table, go print it out on a little cardboard standee or something" leaves a bad taste in my mouth. At least TRO 3063 had some models, albeit hideously expensive ones.

Iron wind has finally updated their release schedule for the final quarter of 2021.
We're getting a metal version of the plastic wolverine, a new sculpt for the Atlas II, and a Viking IIC.

Bit of a disappointment IMO. We already have a new wolverine, and while getting one in metal is nice, I'd rather get something brand new from the recguide. And the Atlas II is....eh. Fine, I guess. But I've never cared for it.

I wasn't aware the Viking and viking IIC even looked different, though I'll probably get one.

Optional Rule: Light Weapon Hardpoints
Just like aerospace fighters come with free bomb hard-points, combat vehicles come with free light weapon hard-points. While generally not relevant in fights against mechs, these weapons can be effective deterrents against infantry.

The number of light weapon hard-points a combat vehicle has is based on weight.
Weight (tons)10-3940-7980-119120-300
Hardpoints2468

Standard Light weapon hard points may mount any infantry weapon other than melee weapons that is less than 50 kg in a standard firing arc.
A light weapon hard point may be upgraded to a pintle mount at the cost of 1 space.
A combat vehicle that mounts an infantry transport bay or compartment may convert a pair of light weapon hard-points into firing-ports. Firing ports allow the any embarked infantry unit to make attacks into either side firing arch of the combat vehicle without leaving it.
