No one can even pretend to give an honest prediction. How insane he was before is an open question.

The more interesting question is what happens if he dies and Rhaegar becomes King then instead.
Most likely Tywin would maneuver Cersei into becoming the Queen through marrying Rhaegar, while he keeps his position as Hand of the King. With Rhaegar and Cersei actually married, no need for the whole debacle at Harrenhall, leading to the rebellion that destroyed the Targaryen dynasty. Although I'm guessing that the Defiance of Duskendale had happened after the War of the Ninepenny Kings had ended with the death of the Blackfyres.

Wrote my answer before reading this:

I agree.
The power behind the throne, Tywin, forces Rhaegar to marry Cersei. The crazy rapist New Edition does some prophesy related girl kidnapping and non-con stupid shit and Westeros explodes.

If Lyanna Stark is still the target of Rhaegar's crazy antics, then you'd probably get the Stark vs Lannister grudge match a couple of decades far too early, all without the need for Littlefinger's own antics. That is, if Harrenhall's tournament would still occur, but since Rhaegar is King, there won't be a need for the tournament at Harrenhall. Cersei would have a better chance of staying alive and healthy after giving birth to a few kids than Elia does in canon.

The plus side of this is that without Rhaegar's marriage to Elia Martell, Doran could approach the North, offering his sister to Brandon Stark, while we'd also get the additional bonus of our favorite elusive Ned x Ashara pairing. However, the major trade off in this case would be that Ned and Robert might not be fostered together in the Vale.

One other potential scenario to come out of a Cersei marriage to Rhaegar might be that the plan to marry Jaime to Elia goes off without any problems, instead of my earlier scenario of Elia marrying Brandon. Jaime wouldn't become a member of the Kingsguard, and Tyrion could be awarded with a small land and keep, from which he could draw his own income. Perhaps restoring Castamere and handing it to Tyrion would be both a reward and punishment in this case.

- A Lone Wolf Locked Up in a Stone Garden: An AU centered during the American Civil War. Lieutenant Robard (nicknamed Robb) Stark, a dashing young cavalry officer in the Union Army, has been wounded and taken prisoner during the disastrous First Battle of Winchester in Winchester, Virginia. Taken to a POW camp in Camp Sorghum, where he and other Union POWs are guarded by a popular, albeit incompetent Confederate Colonel, Mace Tyrell. He soon comes across his gaoler's daughter, Margaery, who has taken a shine to him, though she works as a medic in tending the medical needs of both Union POWs and Confederate guards. Their forbidden romance nearly causes a riot within the POW camp.

Not happening.
1 - STAB still forms as those four Houses want "into Space" i.e. to share some of the power hogged by Tywin and/or "lager up" to protect themselves from the crazy on the throne. So the Stark-Tully match as canon ensues;
2 - at the extreme ends of Westeros the two Houses are useless to one another.

Yes, but in this case it’s Brandon Stark who marries Catelyn, as originally planned before his death. Lyanna’s kidnapping wouldn’t happen in this scenario at all, as there’s no Harrenhall tournament to occur. Ned on the other hand, would have a much more flexible choice of brides in this case.

Moreover, the Reach may end up becoming a wildcard in this case.

Exactly. For Rickard Elia does not even register. She might for Jon, as a bride for Elbert.

Rhaegar kidnapping and raping Lyanna is not dependent upon the Harrenhall tournament. It are the voices in his head, you see ...

Ned has fuck all to say about his bride - he marries who Rickard tell him to. Could be Ashara, could be Walda the Maid, could be Lollys Stockworth, could be Alyssane Mormont.

Come to think of it, has anyone noticed just how unique and radical the design of Joffrey's crossbow looks? I could imagine that being the GoT version of a fusion of a bolt action rifle and the Chinese repeating crossbow. If someone were to confiscate that from Joffrey, they can figure out how it works, and have that mass produced. Hence one of my proposed scenarios is called For Want of a Crossbow.

Though if there was a scenario where Stannis does become King, would relations with the other six Kingdoms be the same, or worsen a bit? This is also the scenario where Robb does not become King in the North (and had also planned to bend the knee to Stannis before the GreatJon proclaimed him as King), and perhaps STAB undergoes a reunion.

One more: what if Nymeria's Conquest of Dorne Fails? Which Stony Dornish house would become dominant, with the absence of both Nymeria and House Martell never becoming prominent?

I kinda like the idea of a T-800, T-850, or T-888 in Westeros. I think I've only seen one fic with that premise, and it was... eh, good idea, poor execution.

Heh, I can imagine Tyrion saying, "I choose my new friend as my champion in this trial by combat!"

Cue the Mountain that Rides being bitch slapped around by a goddamn machine that can bench-press hydraulic vault doors, or his punching it in the face, only for it to slowly turn its head back to him like how the original did with Kyle Reese.

Interestingly enough, the whole "leftover artifacts in the past creating stronger versions" theory is clearly seen here, despite it supposedly being the same machine timeline-wise.

Apparently, the T-900/T-950 were the T-X's predecessors; same chassis but no integrated weaponry or liquid metal.

Maybe seeing one of them would be more interesting -- I could imagine everyone's shock when this dainty-looking blonde bitch-slaps around fully armoured men.

Crossover Idea #1: Ashara in Middle Earth - The Star Hath Shined over Middle Earth

A second chance at life after taking her own life in Starfall as a result of Arthur Dayne's death, Ashara is greeted by a mysterious entity and is reborn into Middle Earth as an obscure semi-Numenorean woman. Saved from an orc ambush by a Gondorian recon party, she would meet one of the sons of Denethor. (Boromir or Faramir with Ashara in this case)

Crossover Idea #2: Reverse Reincarnation - A Second Chance

A reverse situation of Harry Potter characters being reincarnated into the world of Westeros, but this time what if Brandon Stark was reincarnated as James Potter? Come to think of it, the situation with Brandon, Catelyn, and Littlefinger is eerily similar to the situation between James, Lily, and Snape, though Snape is less devious than Littlefinger. Being reborn into a different world that is far advanced to Westeros, a reincarnated Brandon Stark is reborn as James Potter, though with the memory and mannerisms of his old life intact, James Potter would be much less of a jerk, and more of a calculating young man.

Crossover Idea #3: A Young Shieldmaiden Within the Storm

A Dunlending uprising instigated by agents of Saruman or Sauron had resulted in Edoras being raided, and in the midst of the chaos, the not yet corrupted King Theoden is slain by the Dunlendings as Eomer, Theodred, and Eowyn flee for their lives, only to sink at a river, but would miraculously survive, only to end up at a river underneath Wendwater Bridge. Rescued by the Stormlanders, the survivors of the now endangered House of Eadig must adapt to a world where men can easily behave like orcs, where honor is often discarded everywhere, except for the North. Set a few years before the Harrenhall tournament.

Sorry, I just seem to have a lot of brain fart for fanfic ideas lately.

Which Brandon Stark?
Son of Rickard was a 1st Class jerk act, as dumb and "me want me take" and penis driven like e.g Big Bobby or Jaime.
Son of Eddard - too young to show nefarious tendencies yet?

Came to me...Still working on the SG fic...but.

He loomed like a giant before him in the trident, a shadow that seemed to eclipse the entire battlefield. He was taller than Rhaegar remembered as well and the manner in which he carried himself was entirely different. Robert Baratheon was an irate drunkard, a covetous, possessive devil of a man who claimed what he pleased and discarded with the same capriciousness his little brother possessed. Though he fought like a man possessed by the warrior, there was nothing of the joviality or the lack of care in his posture now. No, indeed, he had dismounted well before entering the riverbed and then proceeded to kill half a dozen men with a single swing of his hammer a feat that came out of legends and fables. Perhaps not a man, but a thing? A thing wearing Robert’s skin?

Was that it? Aemon had warned him that if his interpretation rang true then it was possible the darkness would find a champion of its own, a discordant note to contest his song. Then if he is a demon, Rhaegar thought. For Lyanna and for Elia our daughters and our son. For the whole world.

Unsheathing his blade, the prince traced his memories, the accounts his spies (For he little trusted his father’s Spider.) of how Robert Baratheon had taken a particularly terrible wound during the final battle at Summerhall that all thought would claim his life. Fever and pain wracked him for a day, and he fell off his horse and all thought corruption was going to claim his life yet he awoke the next morning by all accounts a changed man. His participation in the battle of Ashford was noted to have been particularly savage yet he yielded the day to Randyll Tarley rather than risk further loss to his men. Nothing like the boisterous Robert that viewed his second bride as a piece of meat. Now, standing before him, sensing the subtle charge in the air (What surely must have been magic.) and seeing his arm strain as his muscles bulged, the stoic countenance.

Rhaegar was certain of it.

Lord Robert had died.

Whatever might have passed for the chieftain of the other’s had sent a demon to occupy his body.

It was madness.

But only the intervention of a dark power could explain how everything had gone so horribly wrong. But very well, he knew there was a chance that he would have the prelude to the trials his children would confront.

His sword pointed forward, its tip shimmering in the sun. “I will send you back to whatever hell you came from creature.”

To his surprise, the creature laughed a deep, rich laugh that was surprisingly melancholic? “Would that you could Heika, because that was my chosen fate, yet here I stand and you’re not strong enough to send me back.”

It was a voice deep and rich and it sounded like it came from the throat of Robert Baratheon, but it belonged to a much older man, the use of a word that sounded Lengish confused him or would have had not the coldness of that voice sent chills down his spine.

" As things stand, you are not worth much more than a portion of my might.”

Perhaps it was the din of battle, the blood in his head, or the sense of euphoria mixed with dread that Rhaegar felt as his fears were confirmed, but it seemed as if Robert’s body grew in size, armor buckled against muscles, and it seemed as though the flow of the river twisted about him. But Rhaegar was no ordinary man to be cowed, he was the Dragon, the sire of the sovereigns who were promised and the master of destiny and it was his fate to lay this monster low and save the world through his son and his sister wives.

Rhaegar Targaryen charged, roaring that the dawn would come again in high Valyrian and as Robert Baratheon brought his hammer forward, something awoke within Rhaegar and his sword seemed to blaze as it cut through the shaft of the hammer, sending the head flying.

His sword dug into Robert’s chest, crunching armor and spilling hot blood, blood that was unnaturally dark for a man so hale and young. But he is no man.

And when Rhaegar pulled back his blade to prepare for slash to the creature’s throat a mailed fist the size of his head smashed into the prince’s chest.

Rhaegar was vaulted backwards, blood, bone and rubies sprayed across the trident. A name thought, never spoken died on his lips as the last Dragon’s chest exploded.

What fell into the trident was the broken ruins of a dynasty.

And the end of an era.

I dunno boys, what do ya think?

Would rice and potatoes help the North's population through winter if it can be grown up North? And would there be gold or silver or platinum in any decent amount up North? Or diamonds and other gems really given the volcanic activity up there.
