But there is obviously no consenses on what it is if there is people(not just me) saying that arabs are semites too. That Jews aren't the only semites. Even if it used to be used to refer to only jew hatered, that doesen't mean anything if the language evolves. If I told you I was gay you would think that I like men romantically. If I then get mad at you and say "I mean I am happy!" that would be very silly of me.
There's a small, politically motivated subgroup of people (not saying you are one of these people, just that you are buying what they are selling) who want to cause confusion by screwing up a perfectly well known word. You know what antisemitism means when someone uses it though. So do they. They just don't like being called an antisemite, so they try to f up the word.

There's a difference between gay and splitting off semitism from antisemitism. It's that gay is a single word. "Antisemitism" is a single word. It's like complaining about "Irregardless". Yes, technically, you can break down the word to "not without regard" = "with regard", but it really means "without regard".

Language does not work via lego blocks. Homophobia doesn't mean fear of gay people. Nor does Islamophobia.

Anti semitism came from Germans they wanted a word so they could dress up their bigotry against Jews and make it sound scientifically "Oh no I don't hate the Jews because they refuse to convert to Christinity. I dislike them because they are a foreign ethnic group not indigenous to Europe. They are from the middle east, I am against having middle easterners in Europe." Before this Jew hate was because of mostly religious dislike, after that it was "scientific" they claimed that semetic people had certain biological traits that put them at odds with Europeans.
Terms start from weird places, even hateful ones. It doesn't really matter though, what matters is how it is used.

This dumbass take needs to die. It's from people who don't understand language.

Language does not work by lego logic, where a word means the sum of its parts, and you can reliably cut up a word into sub parts to extract its meaning. Language works on large scale consensus. If enough people use a word to mean X for long enough that everyone understands what it means, that's what the word means. It's why "Yeah, right" usually means no way in hell, and "irregardless" and "regardless" have the same meaning, despite the 'ir-' prefix supposedly negating. It's why "literally" is usually used figuratively despite meaning the opposite.

Welcome to how language works.

So because antisemitism is used to convey Jew hatred, and is used and understood that way by nearly everyone, antisemitism means Jew Hatred. Even if there were no Jews who were Semetic, it would mean this. Language doesn't care about logic at all.

Quite bluntly, you hold up a standard for Israel that no other country is held to. In fact, Israel is the country that does the most to not cause civilian casualties. It's far better than the US or any other country at war. It's advance warnings, etc, are all steps in their favor.
People belive that antisemitic mean only jew hatred - so what?

Arabs are still semites. When you have arab-jewish conflict, you must be antisemite no matter who would you support.
Well, unless there are russian jews, they are no semites, but chazars.

I kept wondering where the new thread on Anti-Semitism was and was actually looking for it for a few days to see where I could post all of the happy and sad and anger inducing posts regarding antisemitism coming from this Israel-Gaza Conflict but couldn't find it. I know the title of this thread was AntiSemitism but assumed it was some other thread.

But I just glanced back at the OP now and realized, oh no... this was the thread I was looking for. But apparently within like ten posts it just became a literal clone of the other thread discussing the Gaza-Israel Conflict with much of the same people engaging in the same arguments, just at a different tempo. Like looking at the same event through different timelines or something.

Really fascinating stuff.

Well not really... but the mirrorverse theorem I just came up with is kinda neat IMHO. Anyways carry on.

Wait...

Yes, we are going wildly off topic. So I will make a completely uncontroversial statement, that Israel is not representative of all Jewish populations and its actions should not reflect them. In fact there is a range of opinions on the issue within the Jewish community. It is not representative in the same sense that Greece would not be representative of all Greeks, especially since there are communities (some ancient) that have little connection to no connection to the modern state. That is, as Israel is the Jewish State and Greece is the Greek state, not all Greeks or Jews belong to their respective state nor do they owe it an iota of loyalty.

I am sure we can all agree on that. I will then leave it at that, and continue the mutual screaming match in another thread or if it is split off.

I've seen the future...
So, originally, @CurtisLemay was just putting down his personal feelings as a Jew and about the situation in Israel, and being his friend, I know the past several weeks has been rough for him, especially after we both saw some of the vile shit that came out of the Oct. 7 attack. And just when we though it wasn't bad enough, more info about this evil gets disseminated to the public.

I thought, or rather hoped this would be a discussion about the problem with anti-Semitism in the U.S. and elsewhere. Instead, it's devolved into some truly vile accusations and counter accusation, personal attacks and conspiracy theory B.S. Much like several other threads already on this forum.

So, I don't know if this is indicative of an issue on Sietch, or just society and the internet in general. Both are equally disappointing.

Apologies, I'll stop with this.

Thread Is About Anti-Semitism, Not Any Conflicts in Israel-Palestine

This thread is for discussion of antisemitism and discussion and incidents relating to that as per the OP, not general discussion of the Israel-Palestine Conflict or Middle Eastern Conflicts in General.

So incidents of anti-semitism that might've occurred as a result of the Israel-Hamas Conflict (especially in the West) can be discussed here, but not topics like Israel or Hamas war aims, morality or conduct etc.

It is an issue that ignites emotions in many, for various reasons. It's a difficult thing to talk about even in the best of times.

Antisemitism is a terrible thing that exists. It shouldn't.

In my case, it gets summed up by a joke headline I saw, "I support Israel because it seems like you get in less trouble for that." My issue for a long time, since well before the current situation, has been that... I by and large support Israel. There are ALSO some things i'm critical of Israel on.

Without fail, the second a criticism is uttered... "antisemite". I understand being defensive, but it's just counterproductive to jump that immediately. I expect that of certain other boards. It just flares up the flames.

Something Amusingly Karmic regarding Anti-Semitism.

Anyways here's some Threads/Accounts off of Twitter cataloging some of these incidents of alleged anti-semitism. YMMV.

Some of the obviously named accounts...

Stop AntiSemitism

And yep, that just happened. An elderly Jewish protestor named Paul Kessler was allegedly murdered by a pro-Hamas protestor in California.

And one for Canadia specifically

Documenting AntiSemitism

Marina Medvin has been posting various compilations of various incidents, but only some are applicable to the topic of this thread.

On Anti-Semitic Acts in the US.

YMMV on the Twitter threads below.

On Palestinian Activists Operating in American Universities.

On pro-Hamas Activity in US Universities.

On Black Lives Matter Support of Certain Palestinian Causes.

On pro-Hamas Protests/Celebrations Around the World.

On Palestinian Indoctrination of Children on Jew Hating.

And an account for anti-Israel bias, which has some overlap.

Its almost as if letting cultural marxists who see the world through the lense of 'oppression' infiltrate and take over academia was a terrible idea. Why, almost as bad of an idea as importing the third world!

All these attacks, and barely a peep from the press or pundits on who is responsible for the overwhelming majority of them.

Again, maybe it deserves another thread, but contrary to what the mainstream would have you believe, I think we can safely rule out white, straight, Christian men being the attackers here. (Hint: The real culprits are the ones shouting "Allahu Akbar!" all the time — something even the "moderates" in their community won't speak up about.)

And another incident. There'll be more of course, but this has already gotten pretty damn stupid.

Ah, so both a retard and a violent POS!

And yet... nothing meaningful will be done to address the root of the problem, just as is the case with most of these attacks and their perpetrators. Per the article, it said she was rambling about "her people back home in Palestine", so I have to wonder if there's another "problem group" that'll simply deflect when pressed on some very real issues they have.

I think this is one of many issues thats just going to blow the fuck up at some point.

Right now were in the court of decadent fools stage of things, and fools can run things for quite some time, but foolishness only lasts for so long until the rubber meets the road.

Among other things, I'd hazard a guess that future involves anti-Muslim pogroms as retaliation for all this.

Don't usually look to them for advance notice, but when it comes to India, I think Hindutva reprisals every time the Muslim population acts out offers a pretty good benchmark for how the West will start turning on theirs. If your community has a widespread radicalization problem and gets defensive every time you're pressed on it, don't be surprised when the public claps back with excessive force after decades of putting up with your shit. :(
