That Women's Marathon happened a few days ago but it had some neat stories... beyond the fact that two Kenyans won it as expected.
The third place winner who earned Bronze was American Molly Seidel... who was running in the Olympics in what was only her
third official marathon. Her first marathon was apparently an Olympic qualifier and while Molly is a very experienced long distance runner, most of her background is in cross country running and not marathon running. This is apparently just the third American to actually manage to medal in the Women's Marathon and the first since 2004.
From barista and babysitter to bronze medalist, U.S runner Molly Seidel has transformed nearly overnight. Running in just the third official marathon of her career on Saturday in the northern Japan…

The other neat story that popped up is that the 10th place finisher was from an Irish born-Australian 44 year old named Sinead Diver who didn't actually start participating in athletics until the age of 33.
