What "lies" are you referring to, exactly?

Take it too far though, and you end up treating all of humanity like a plague on this earth that must be exterminated.

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

I disagree; you could just as easily argue that continued NATO expansion, after the supposed end of the Cold War, created a self-fulfilling prophecy by causing Russia to believe that peace was never an option, and future conflict with America and Europe was inevitable. Which was understandable...

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

Yeah, no; just because I know that endless NATO expansion had a hand in causing this conflict, doesn't mean I'm going to buy those claims. For one thing, trying to assert that it's a "Russian civil war" just exposes that he never thought of Ukraine as a sovereign nation; and as for claims of...

He was probably expecting that his time there would be spent consuming Russian propaganda, and rounding up helpless civilians; not actually risking his life, or having to suffer any sort of hardship.

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

I agree; it was probably a whole host of factors that contributed, as is usually the case.

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

All I'm saying is that the areas in Ukraine with higher ethnically Russian populations also supported having closer ties with Russia, and I think there's a connection there.

Most of the regions that backed Viktor Yanukovych also had a lot more ethnic Russians compared to western Ukraine (under 5% of the population in many areas), from as low as around 15% in places like Dnepropetrovsk to as high as just under 60% in Crimea, so that probably played a factor as well.

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

Yes, well; blowing up civilians and kidnapping their children tends to turn people against you. Because it pretty much was (when you account for population density and not just total geographic area), at least in terms of Viktor Yanukovych's supporters who wanted him to tie them closer to...

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

Yes!!! I've just been trying to explain the nuances involved, but it's all apparently too "TL;DR" for you to see as anything other than "blah blah blah". God, you're so frustrating to converse with; it's like pulling teeth!

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

You straight up accused me of saying that only a minority of all Ukrainians oppose the Russian invasion.

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

Let me explain to you the political situation in Ukraine that led to the coup, up to today; roughly, Viktor Yanukovych was elected into office almost entirely with votes from Crimea and eastern Ukraine. Western Ukraine does not support him, and downright comes to hate him when he pivots the...

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

You just said that I said that "only a minority of the population has resisted the Russian invasion for a year and a half." Show me where I have said that; quote me.

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

The heck are you even going on about? I didn't say anything like that; you're just straight up lying, and trying to attack my character.
  15. Terthna

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

Which means what, exactly? Besides; most people thought Ukraine would be conquered in a matter of days at first. It had nothing to do with whether or not that person was a "Russophile"; we just all assumed that the Russian military were mostly telling the truth about their capabilities, and...

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

Fair enough; but that doesn't mean you should trust other polls, just because they come from a place you trust and tell you what you want to hear either. One should be extremely skeptical of all polls regardless.
  17. Terthna

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

And there you go; making excuses as to why said poll that says something you don't like doesn't count. Not exactly as I said you would, but close enough for the difference to be purely semantic. Said Ukrainians being the ones from the part of the country that so hated Russia, they backed a...

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

Does it matter? You and I both know you're only asking those questions so that you can use them as a springboard to try and argue why polls that don't agree with you don't count. For example, I could point out this or that poll that shows that a majority of people in Crimea supported its...

Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

You mean you'll take polls that confirm what you already believe is true. Because I've seen how you react to ones that don't.

Who in their right mind trusts any poll?
