Looking at the map on the screen. There ain't no way in hell California and Texas is gonna make a full on assault into DC. There are too many military assets in place that are there to prevent such a thing. Like a whole nother level of raw firepower. Continent glassing firepower.

There wasn't exactly a very stable frontline or interior lines going on. The meat of the movie is a journey from New York City to Washington DC where the Federal Forces ostensibly have control of the Northeast. But traveling through that area, it's pretty clear its quite porous.

Also a third frontline was opened up when the Florida Alliance apparently engaged Federal forces in the Carolinas.

Plus there's large numbers of communities that are staying out of it or trying to pretend nothing is going on.

I feel like they really chickened out with the politics by the sounds of it. A good writer would have given both sides casus belli, and the mark of a great writer is the ability to critique your own beliefs whilst understanding the virtues of your opposition. You could have put worthy people in both sides and emphasize the tragedy of them massacring each other.

But that would be creative and risky, Hollywood does neither of those things.

This plot sounds like complete horseshit.

They may have too, soon enough.

To my mind, I’d have used the film to introduce the audience to a new franchise/setting (in the same vein as Cyberpunk or Warhammer). A United States ripped apart by Civil War in the 2030s is a place that can provide plentiful and thought provoking stories.

That movie did not have 4 Carrier Battlegroups laying down the pain on the opposing ground force. That is what would happen in RL

A Civil War where "four Carrier Battlegroups" negates a Civil War occurring in the first place sounds like an utterly fascinating setting to explore.

Naw, pretty sure they would be ripping each other apart.

I mean, the US military has a pretty good track record of political neutrality, but if we are at the point where the Federal military has split, I don't see the Navy being spared.

The US Navy remained mostly intact during the real Civil War we had. Outside of the Monitor and Merrimack fight . The Conferates had no real Navy. The same would be the case here.

The US Navy would be loyally on the side of the President who has overstayed into a third unconstitutional term as President, has launched airstrikes on American civilians, and executed journalists as enemy combatants?

There's not much world building going on but there's drips and drops.

You literally have at least three different movements America has splintered into going on and lots of personal conflict happening as well on a far more local level.

The two sides actually featured have significant military forces already so there was probably a divide in the military too.

In a three way national split? I think at a minimum those carrier groups are only going to be keeping a lot sailors onboard via gunpoint and refusing to return to port, because a lot of those sailors are going to want to be off those ships in that situation.

I am a Sailor..... You have no idea how we think if you think we would want to throw in with rabble trying to split up the US.

Secessionist rabble has 4th and 5th Generation Jets, main battle tanks, fleets of helicopters, and many multitudes of armored vehicles of various classes in the movie as well. 😱

I was a Sailor, and if you think I and multiple of my shipmates wouldn't have stuffed our CO in the torpedo tube if he was giving unlawful orders and the federal government was killing American civilians... well there is plenty of room in the tube.

Of course I was a submariner, so we operated a bit differently from the surface fleet. For one, the enlisted and officers are much more personable and friendly with each other, so I don't think the above would be necessary on a submarine anyway.

I do think we could have easily sunk any carrier that turned against the Constitution, all surface ships are just targets after all.
