Fallout Fallout General Thread - War, War Never Changes. Nor do game engines.

And the game/story sorta describes Legion VS NCR as being morally grey....except the first is obviously WAY worse than the latter

That's only because "civilization" breaks the franchise's meta, which is why the DLC let's you nuke both capitals (which wouldn't be a total death knell for the Legion like it would for the NCR) and why the Brotherhood turned into blimp Nazis that can only survive if you either kill the cool faction or rely on Fallout's signature bugginess to forestall a major confrontation.

The only thing "good" about the Legion is that they don't unnecessarily spread out and fail to protect their territory and their idea of "security" or "safe living" is shit. It's "civilisation" but I'd prefer the anarchistic, negotiate and/or fight people you meet sort of life than that one.

Oh, lovely. They've sent me a mo-ron.
There maybe small anarchocommunist settlements all over the wasteland, but for outright communism? Someone may find some book by Karl Marx in a guys private collection for that to occur

Then eventually have to constantly pay for the welfare of every single citizen
Could make for a future game just to have the same fight their predecessors had. Though as there's those brahmin barons then there could possibly be an NCR civil war if a developer so want it instead of the NCR fighting a communist state.

Though as China fought with America, someone may have a copy of mao's red book to get a hold of.

Ha ha ha. Sadly with fallout and RL to draw from some idiot might just do that and kill the ones with glasses.

And eventually they become roving bandits, calling people who're NOT sharing their wealth, resources, food and weapons "selfish" or "bourgeoisie" partially because they're killing the smart guys for being uppity or having it kinda better than everybody else

And well how else will they feed everybody in said roving bandit clan but by taking others' resources

Communist raiders with the hammer and sickle. I love the apocalypse. Gave us mongol and roman tribal wannabes.

Communist raiders with the hammer and sickle.

They also kill all merchants, even the less successful ones.

Honestly, a Communist State in the Wasteland will be one operating on "More Equal Than Others" for its leadership and essentially be both a dictatorship and cult. The difference between it and other wasteland settlements would mainly be how everybody eats from the same cook or lives on specific rations, they can't leave the place, there's pseudo secret police

Communism gaining popularity is unlikely in the North American wasteland, not least because in the Fallout timeline self-proclaimed communists destroyed civilisation.

I think the bigger issue is that even 200 years later, people still hate the very idea of communism in fallout and would likely move against any self proclaimed communist settlement or movement.

As for why they still hate it, I'd say it's a 50/50 mix of leftover attitudes from the prewar USA, and Bethesda's heavy handed "hey guys, look, it's like 50s, but with ray guns robots? Get it, get that it was like the 50s?" style of "worldbuilding".

Also, I wasn't aware the mothership zeta aliens were communists.

I thought it was human avarice that destroyed civilization and our inability to work together.

What if the locals don't know what communists are? After the nuclear hellfire education of the past would be less a priority.

Someone could do communism without calling it communism.

Yeah, think of guys really resenting the rich traders or richer peoples in their wasteland settlements, thinking that all that wealth and resources could easily be redistributed

And how "no one should be even able to live in luxury in a post-apocalyptic scavenging world" so they must ALL stick to rations

No, their own actions are entirely their fault.

Isn't part of the usual argument of why Real-Communism's never been tried that Communist Nations have hard times doing trading due to Non-Communist Powers pulling strings and/or refusing to trade with said Communist Nations and maybe even being at war with them or keeping others from becoming Communist?

Possibly could see fascist larping or whatever vault control experiment to see how people act of a different belief in the vault too.

The best thing about fallout is that people could take well preserved costumes from a museum and set an absurd parody of them in some demented society.

If say a wealthy person had a vault collection of pretending to be the 501st legion and then after the nukes it got opened and voila actual troopers with lasers and some crazy society from it.
