Fencing is part of HEMA but yeah, since traditional european martial arts include boxing and wrestling, two of the most effective martial arts period. Judo is another one that stems from a series of traditional martial arts that is highly effective (and it's offshoot BJJ) and Muay Thai speaks for itself. That's almost entirely it though, and that's basically all you'll find inside MMA competitions and gyms (with a few exceptions like Sambo, which again is an offshoot of Judo.)Depends on the martial art for instance.
HEMA.
It is effective against someone who is ir isn't also one.
Same with Fancing.
But they use weapons
The rest, like kung fu and most forms of karate, are basically a sparring version of yoga or gymnastics. Even things like Tae Kwon Do and Karate are only really effective against other trained martial artists when the gyms that teach them widdle them down to kickboxing.
