Considering the bulk of the New Republic Military (save for a few named characters) are a bunch of arrogant out of touch morons. I would say he will run circles around them.Probably because they're expecting people to have read the books. Though if you read the books you'd probably be upset at how incompetently he's been depicted in this show.
There is no place for military competence in Filoni’s world.Considering the bulk of the New Republic Military (save for a few named characters) are a bunch of arrogant out of touch morons. I would say he will run circles around them.

Which in of itself reflects a very old problem in writing: you can’t write a character who is smarter than you. I’d dispute the “can’t” part, but it is very difficult.
And Dave Filoni obviously doesn’t care to learn how.
As much as some people don’t like what Andor represents, that series is hilariously better written than anything else in the Age of Disney. The minds behind HBO Chernobyl couldn’t do anything else.Fundamentally, all the real problems with SW (and most media nowadays) are writing problems. All other stuff is just marginal. Occasional blad directing or uninspired set design, for instance, are no real issue is the writing is good. But the writing, these days, is rarely good.
Oh come now, "BLAD" directing is how we get some memorable performances from Adam Sandler from Gene Tartakovsky, I don't think any Star Wars has ever had directing that rose to that level.Occasional blad directing

It depends. On a surface level, certainly. But things like the Battle of D’Qar and most of the actions in Star Wars Rebels flummoxed the audience. When the standard cinema goer has a firmer grasp of generalship than the writers, we have a big sodding problem. In all fairness, most people don't care, ESPECIALLY in Star Wars.
Star Wars is space fantasy, and it's at its best when it's laying into the fantasy part of it.
So with Thrawn in the show now, and him headed to Dathomir, is anyone else kinda hoping he allies with Zsinj?
With the Chimera in need of some drydock time, maybe Zsinj would allow Thrawn to use Iron Fist for his campaigns?

Prior to Filoni, the answer was no.
With Filoni... we can question his writing ability, but he is Star Wars to the core and this is exactly the kind of thing he would do.
Filoni is "his own prequel-era stuff" to the core.
He hasn't shown much of an inclination to care one bit about the rest of the EU, not even when that was still an ongoing thing.
Ummm hate to break it to ya but no not even George. He didn't get the concept of not having Capital ships fighting at close range. If you can see the enemy ship with clarity with your own eyes. You are too damn close. He had far to many people who should be at the rank of Lt Commander or Major. Being made Generals. And the battle strategies of the Empire and Rebellion were shit tier. The attack on Hoth the Empire did and the Battle of Endor are master classes in how not to use a Naval Fleet effectively. On Hoth the Empire should have been deorbiting Asteroids and slamming them into Hoth. 3 or 4 big ones would have KT evented that planet killing all the Rebels. And at Endor Both the Empire and the Rebels put on the stupid hat. The Empire for not mustering enough ships to protect the Deathstar. And also for not putting down a insurgency crushing force of 100,000 troops on the Forest Moon. And the Rebels for literally blundering into an obvious trap. Always scout out a system for weeks to get the lay of the area before you commit a Major Fleet to an engagement. The Rebellion won literally by dumb luck. Had Luke and the Gang had died before reaching Endor. Or the Ewoks decided to not help Han and the Gang or the Empire just started blasting the Rebel Fleet with the Deathstar 2 as the jumped in system. The Rebellion would have been crushed. As much as some people don’t like what Andor represents, that series is hilariously better written than anything else in the Age of Disney. But seriously, although he didn’t have a firm grasp on it either, George seemed to understand military matters a little better than those in charge today. For example, capital ships are far more likely to use their main weaponry in the Original and Prequel Trilogy than the Sequels. A Star Destroyer is a battleship, not background scenery.
He is quite insistent in that regard.Filoni is "his own prequel-era stuff" to the core.

Yeah, but she married Luke and KK hates Luke and Han.He is quite insistent in that regard.
Star Wars Rebels would have been a perfect opportunity to bring Mara Jade back into canon, for example. Hunting low-tier Jedi well beneath Vader’s radar would have worked well for a young Emperor’s hand, and fulfils Kathleen’s “girl power” quota.
Also, given that she’s a beautiful redhead, there’s a terrifying possibility she might have been race swapped. Maybe it is for the best Mara was spared the attentions of the Great Horned Rat…Yeah, but she married Luke and KK hates Luke and Han.

I'll point out that it was VADER in the TIE Advanced...who is easily equal to a squadron or two by himself. There's never been any place for military competence in Star Wars.
"Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances!"
If Tarkin had authorized even a single additional squadron of TIE Fighters to launch alongside Vader's personal fighters, the movie would have been over. As it is, 1x TIE Advanced + 8x TIE Fighter killed all but three out of thirty X-Wings and Y-Wings, which really should have refuted from the start the EU's repeated assertion that TIE Fighters are low quality. If anything, it's the vaunted Rebel fighters that are flying coffins-- bulkier and far less agile, dependent on defensive shields that demonstrably provide little to no actual protection.
