That's why any modern armored vests have additional layers behind their ceramic or metal plates to deal with spalling and/or blunt trauma..It's an issue when getting hit by bullets.

Yes, depending on the quality of the material. It's been the bane of metal armor. The force from the impact can break off fragments from the inner surface.Even glancing hits?
Actually they can protect against richocets of the bullets and even smaller bullets from pistols, and stuff.Rant Mode ON: The whole 'Oooh WW2 helmets!' is such a BS argument considering its only now that helmets are coming out of that MIGHT stop rifle rounds while also being in any ways practical and usable. WW2 helmets that can stop incidental shrapnel while being comfortable enough that soldiers will actually wear them is basically 95%+ of the way there compared to any other helmet other than the claims of those newest models that are probably made of compressed $100 bills.
Rant Mode OFF: Yes, that kit they're wearing overall looks like crap and probably performs about as well as it looks...
Took a look at the text - quite interesting. I'm curious if this surprisingly good protection against overhead blast effects might not be due to some effect of the mentioned crest/comb, but the ventilation hole underneath it? Maybe that does something scientific to the overpressure wave? And speaking of old helmets, WWI Adrian helmet is actually superior protection against blast waves than modern helmets are:

You can see that the comb is raised, with a void underneath:
BTW - woke choice of photo in the linked text?
Well it would certainly be better for him than the current risk of losing the whole war...If Russia seizing the Donbass back in 2014 would have prevented this current war, then I would have been all in favor of this:
Putin says he should have seized Donbas in 2014
Russia should have gone for a complete conquest and annexation of Donbas back in 2014, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said during a staged meeting with “mothers of Russian soldiers” on Nov. 25.news.yahoo.com
Would have ensured that the rest of Ukraine would be pro-Western while having thousands of people or more still be alive. And the Donbass wouldn't have had a Transnistria-like status for eight years.
Of course, Putin could have annexed the Donbass in late February of this year instead of invading all of Ukraine, but he regrettably chose not to and to instead go for the bolder, more riskier, and more deadly option.
Well it would certainly be better for him than the current risk of losing the whole war...
But he wasn't thinking of that, and since 2014 had his eyes on the big prize, all of Ukraine, to control through a militant separatist proxy getting a veto over what the central government does.
Though doing it in 2014 may have saved Russia the PR disaster in form of 8 years of warlord rule with all the implications over the people Russia supposedly cares about and wants to protect.
Dunno if it was better - but, certainly look better then other helmets. And,since it was made by french,it was more sexy,too!@Aldarion Found it!!!!!1111
This is how the Adrian looks like without the comb! Look at the slit hidden under the comb!
You kinda know you're losing the war when you're arguing about this rather than battles won and territory gained.Russian "Tradition of Punitive Gay Sex" far superior to Western "Literal Faggotry." 💪🍆🍑

Spinant explained that the estimate voiced by von der Leyen had been taken from external sources and was supposed to refer to the losses in killed and wounded and "was intended to show the brutality of Russia".
