So, if I understand right, the Goa'uld lost 10 ships for each Asgard one they destroy, right? That put a big, bad, adversary but not invincible, image correctly, IMHO.
Yes, now it would probably be closer to five to one. But at the same time their territory is far more massive and orbital defenses are great and all but that's still a lot of territory to defend against an enemy that can just pop up with concentrated force do damage and leave before your ships can get there. So in some ways their in even worse shape tactically than before.
Conversely the Asgardian Kingdoms have been fighting for their lives for a million years, one is already extinct or nearly extinct and they have a certain health problem they need to lick and lick soon.
So neither side wants a fight- the Asgard can still conceivably win a war with the Goa'uld or the Asurans at an alarming cost.
But they can't beat both of them without it being an "we take you guys with us" type deal.
At least that's what I'm trying to convey.
Theyre a bit more advanced than Canon though. The Goa'uld in this story are technologically on par with the Asgard in the show and the Asgardians in this story are still a couple generations ahead.
They're still the meanest dog in the junkyard. It's just that the JYD has some arthritis now. Though that might make him more dangerous. After all the only thing worse than a roided out Rottweiler is one who is grouchy and has bad vision
....speaking from personal experience there. An uncle of mine breeds police horses and he had a bunch of Filas Brasileros. They were all brothers from the same litter and when they got old and a little senile they confused a pregnant horse for a dog and attacked her and managed to get her down and rip out her foal before they were pulled back.
Scary shit.
Might have slightly influenced my portrayal of the Vanir lol.
