Looks like a T-55... which can penetrate an Abrams via the good ol' surprise buttsex method and not much else... and good luck in getting into position to do said surprise buttsex...
Ah, Battletech has some pretty sensible tank designs despite the system making tanks not as capable. In this case, say hello to the Gürteltier, or as I like to call the 'Guert'. The standard variant is armed with a gauss rifle, an IS ERPPC, a Multi-Missile Launcher 7, and three machineguns for pesky infantry with all the explosive ammo located in CASE bins. Oh, it has a targeting computer, a C3 Slave system, and an ECM suite, you know just for kicks.
As some of my fellow Battletech players said when I showed up with two of them, they said they were disgusting (in Alpha Strike, it has 12 armor pips, 5 structural pips, and deals 4 damage at all ranges).
There was a mission in Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries where you have to support a group of Mutineers fighting the Draconis Combine and since it was early in the game, you didn't really have the best mechs. But in one mission 'Crystal Storm' your job was to find a four Assault Lance of Draconis mechs and lure them into the range of three Heavy Artillery Tanks.
Armored vehicles in general up to that point were basically pathetic targets so I wondered just how good these Heavy Artillery Tanks were... and since I was a good Mercenary, I certainly didn't want to risk extra damage to my own mech, much less needlessly expose myself to danger. So as soon as we baited the Assault Lance of mechs into the range of the three artillery tanks, I safely fled a few hundred meters away and watched as these "Heavy Artillery Tanks' lobbed huge ass missiles and PPC's at the Assault Lance and absolutely shredded them, turning them from blue to yellow to KABOOM in a span of minutes.
And it was like the only mission they ever showed up in. Those things kicked ass! No wonder they keep them secret, it'd ruin the whole Mechwarrior thing if you had ugly fat squat tanks rumbling about three shotting assault mechs all the time.
Thanks to Youtube I even found a playthrough of the mission. This person was braver (stupider) then I of course.
But yeah, those tanks (whatever models they might've been) were fugly. The graphics of the time certainly didn't do them any favors either.
