BTW, since you are stationed in Korea, how is your knowledge of South Korea army? Because it would be interesting to hear about their experience with T-80s they use in one of their armored brigades.
I can ask the ROK i work with and see what they know.
I know a lot more every day that I am put in a general intel area then what my specialized intel area

They were made in soviets before fall,or after that in Ukraine ? I once read, that Ukraine even made prototype of T.80 with new turret and 120mm gun,but i do not knew if somebody buy it.

No,thank you.I simply wonder if ukrainians manage sell anything after 1991 - but i could check it on my own.
More important thing - soviets in Charkow had prototype of new generation tank.Ukrainian never made it,but would be that good idea now ?
It was Obiekt 477 with 152mm gun.

There were two projects, first on was 2A46 rechambered for 120 mm ammo, which could use the old turret and autoloader, but they couldn't make the gun work, second one was with the French 120 mm gun, new turret and reworked autoloader, they offered it for export, but couldn't find the buyers.

Head over heels in love :)
For a weird one, I remember when Trumpeter models first came around and their early line was largely T-55 and Type 59 variants. One, model was a one-off variant that the Chinese experimented with, a Type 59 with a 120mm gun. Of course it's possible that they were only using it as a concept vehicle or test bed rather than seriously considering upgunning their forces but I don't know.

Boxart. Back when Trumpeter kits were seen as rather cheap and a bit nasty though they weren't too bad back then.

Ukraine would have trouble producing it, due to degradation of their production capabilities, while Russia wouldn't produce it since Armata is to enter production in couple years.

I just found old newspaper from 2015,that Putin said that till 2020 he would made 2000 of them.Apparently,he failed to do so.
Lack of money, but he could blame only himself. If after 2000 he copy China, not Venezuella economic model,Russia would be economic and military superpower now.

I think the USA always knew how bad the CCP was, but back then they thought China could be controlled, or steered towards a direction that would be suitable for US interests.
Then Tiannaman square

Yeah. THAT changed a lot of things, although I would say the aftermath of Tiananmen was more... significant/meaningful for the CCP leadership than for the US one.
It showed how bad they were and they could note controlled

Wtf is that

A T-55 / Type 59 upgrade from Cadillac Gage Textron, with the engine off a Stingray tank, a fully stabilized 105mm NATO main cannon, and all the "soft features" of a modern Western MBT, including thermal sights, digital fire control computer, automatic fire suppression, spall lining, armored blowout compartments, and overpressure NBC system.

So before we realized how bad the CCP was?

We always knew; hell, we and the British were happy to use them as a backdoor to support the literally genocidal Khmer Rouge just to spite Vietnam. Tiananmen Square simply made their public image too ugly to openly work with anymore.
