Marvel X-Men '97

It'll start streaming on something called Disney+ March 20th and is a continuation of the classic Fox X-men cartoon from the aforementioned decade... where Xavier almost died but was actually taken into space by Sh'iar Empress Lilandra lady.

Trailer looks neat of course.

Now there's been plenty of controversy regarding this series from woke writers to non-binary shapeshifters but a far more important issue has revealed itself, showing this is nothing more then a DIET X-Men series.

Yes, they have allegedly taken away the cake. Like you can't trust the audience to moderate their appetites, so you take away the option entirely FFS.

To be fair on the animators regarding Rogue, the model isn't that bad, and it could be far worse, most comic cartoons these days even the good ones tone down the objectifying down more than 90's allowances, and to be fair Rogue is literally a mile away in the scene people are citing so it isn't the best example.

If they in anyway have Rogue lose her accent or imply, she is a racist because she is Southern, I will hit the celling.

On the plus side hopefully, this reboot will be able to keep continuity and plot progression better than the first series as while it was ahead of its time in that department it could have been a little better.

I will reserve my judgement but won't lose sleep if it bombs.

I expect it to be about as faithful as the Teela show was to He-man.

So the first two episodes are out, and holy shit, this show is going all in.

Also nice to see Magneto become the hero he could have always been, in order to honor Prof X's sacrifice.

So, I take it isn't as hot of a mess as some predicted? I am glad if it's the case.

It feels like the OG X-Men cartoon never stopped, just paused and came back with a bit smoother animation and a few new voice actors.

Jen Hale is Jean Grey, and killing it; admittedly I sometimes forget she is not in fact FemShep gone back in time.

Cyclops also has a bit more...nifty moves now, using his optic blasts for momentum/movement purposes in fights, not just blasting people.

Wolverine is his old self, which is exactly what we wanted.

Rogue is very, very much her old, sassy, sweet self, though her...past with Magneto may be coming back into play with him leading the X-Men now.

Beast is still very fun, and this is my fav Dr. McCoy in fiction (sorry Bones), while Jubilee is reminding why 90's punk/rave style was so much better than today.

Morph's comes in clutch, but is a dick, and I only vaguely remember him from before, while Bishop is someone I was only vaguely aware of before.

Storm...she is the reason the X-Men couldn't be in the MCU; she'd have solo'd about 75% of the threats the Avengers faced without breaking a sweat. Short of Loki, Thor, Thanos, and maybe Dr. Strange, not many people would have had powers that could match her.

And Magneto...this is the Magneto the world has wanted for a long, long time.

Color me shocked; I figured the show was doomed after seeing what they did to Rogue, and hearing about what they were going to do with Morph. Though considering they canned the show runner (who, despite being pretty darn work, apparently made a name for himself as being "difficult to work with" by speaking out against his coworkers for disrespecting the source material, back when he worked on the Witcher show), there's a chance that it might take a nosedive in quality once it moves past the episodes he was in charge of; depending on who Disney gets to replace him.

seeing what they did to Rogue
I still can't understand why you are shocked that they toned down some of the more overt and overly sexualized artstyle aspects in the reboot, comics having sexualized characters isn't a bad thing in moderation but the 90's Xmen in particular was a product of it's time when it came to close up shots and references.

Case and point!

The reality is that any reboot of this series was going to probably receive a tweaks to it to adapt to modern audiences and I am not talking about strictly 'woke' changes I am just saying Xmen 97 was probably under any circumstances at least going to be less overt when it didn't need to be.

And that also applies to other aspects of the show's writing such as serialization and interconnected plots between episodes, Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated, Gravity Falls, Adventure Time are all great gold standard examples of how serious cartoon drama rigid plot points are interconnected in today's writing in serious storytelling, as opposed to the 90's Xmen where overall the plot had a lot less continuity and was far looser. (Keypoint being less there was continuity in the original 90's XMEN but like I stated it could be loose.)

people are hypersensitive to such changes because they are used to it happening alongside a whole lot of other woke bullshit. it is like seeing a brightly colored orange butterfly and thinking naw that ain't food. it may not be a mighty monarch filled with poison but there are enough of those out there that spotting a few signs is enough to make me lose interest in a property until it has been completed and reviewers with similar taste to mine have tested it to see if it is palatable.

So how do you explain Storm then? Because as far as I can tell, she still has an ass; and they didn't downgrade her to a monoboob.

granted I'll admit I don't have a disney sub and have been following along via Youtube...but hot dang if this show isin't great..I call it X-men season 6 because that's essentially what it is. Just pray to the lord that Disney does not decide to "modernize" season 7

they shifted the showrunner partway through. that may mean we could expect a shift in tone mid season or near the end. still if you are enjoying it good. I hope more people find shows they like. If Hollywood can start making a diverse array of movies and shows for different tastes than there being some pieces that cater to woke won't be bad.
