Whatever one might think of the virus itself, I think we can all at least agree that the Chinese government (and, to a lesser extent, the Chinese people) should be held accountable for their actions. They've done everything they could to make the situation worse in the name of personal gain and saving face, and they don't seem to have any intention of stopping any time soon.

So the problem is the red blood cells can't transport oxygen rather than the lungs being prevented from progressing it? Is that a first finding, or was it already suspected, with this discovery giving credence to it?

Its not the blood cells but rather the cells that make up the walls of the blood vessels and/or the cells of the lungs. Normally these cells are structured in such a way to allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to pass through themselves between the alveoli and red blood cells. If these cells get infected and either swell or die, then the oxygen can't pass though them.
The problem is how do you separate the facts from the crap. I'm personally overwhelmed by all the information out there. I don't know who to trust and who to believe.The main issue is I think that this is new. New in that its a new virus and so there are a lot of uncertainties with it, plus a lack of immunity means a lot of people get it fast so you get a lot of bad news all in a row. Thats going to make anyone nervous.
Also its new to most of the places we live in. Pandemics aren't uncommon and we've had a bunch in recent memory, but none of them really hit Western countries. This is new to us and nobody quite knows what is the best thing to do.
You have uncertainty which creates anxiety and a bunch of bad news which creates fear. You'd have to be a machine to not be affected by it in at least some way, but you can temper all of that with the fact that while it is bad, its not doom.
Keep a level head, look for verified facts, don't take anything at face value on first look and always remember that just because it could do something doesn't mean it will do something.
In other words keep calm and carry on. With sensible precautions of course

You know this might seem callous and heartless. But I am actually glad this has happened for one reason. For far to long. people of a certain two generations of a lefty persuasion have been bitching and moaning over unimportant bullshit. They had their parents coddling them and bailing them out of every mess. This situation has forced these two Generations to get a hard dose of reality. There are no safe spaces. There is no Mama and Daddy bailing them out. They will either stand on their own two feet and Man up or they will fail. This lock down sadly is just what the country needed to straighten their asses out.
I agree with the general sentiment, however I think your taking that a bit far.
The simple fact is this is a fucked supply chain issue that came out of nowhere that are piercing the very heart of our modern society in a way we only ever theorized about.
You can get knocked over by something like this even if you stand on your own two feet.
Also, it's not wrong for parents to want their kids to struggle less than they have.

I am reminded of something I learned 29 years ago. There is no greater teacher than combat. This is what is needed. Just look at the Generation that went through the Great Depression. They came out the other end and made the Country a Superpower. This is one of those things that comes along that needed to happen. Life is tough and sometimes a national crisis is needed.
I'd agree, if this wasn't an election year and the Left is doing all they can to make this out to be Trump's fault.
Also, I'm not optimistic that this will teach anything to the people you are talking about, and instead it will all be lost to partisan politics.
I am optimistic that some of them will rethink their life choices as their stomachs knot up for a month due to hunger.

The thing is, becoming more conservative is, overall, a natural result of aging. Some people will only be moderately affected. Some people will hold the same positions, and become 'relative' conservatives. A lot of people though, realize that a libertine lifestyle actually isn't satisfying, and they don't like paying lots of taxes for no good reason.
Harsh circumstances like this quarantine don't need to change everyone's mind. They just need to change enough minds to help shift the political direction of the country.
