China Wuhan Virus Pandemic

Reddit moment inbound! A crazed woman who is apparently a Berkley professor has gotten the people who are most likely to die from Coronavirus confused: the ones insisting the footage in China is actually crisis actors, or the ones who are in fact being told about the virus daily (if she ever bothered to watch one episode of Tucker's show this would be obvious), and will definitely be told more about it as the disease sweeps over California (Hey, it's Fox news). Unsurprisingly she deleted the tweet.

Man I really gotta watch Akira.

Also, Brazil has confirmed a case in São Paulo, abd there are 2 suspected in 2 other capitals. We are already dead. Carnival is going on, a perfect transmission vector. We will be dropping like flies by the end of next month. I know I am not leaving home.

There is a guy in Recife that's looking like he'll be confirmed as a 2019-nCoV case. As for dropping like flies by the end of March... eh, it depends on the next few days, I guess. We certainly are able to replicate the feats of stupidity that happened in South Korea and other countries.

But still, the most important thing is the Brazilian confirmed case means Corona-chan has gone global! No continents or sub-continents permanently inhabited by humans are free of her.

I just feel that this thread is becoming hysterical. We're talking about a disease with a death rate of 2 - 3% here (and probably lower), and I'm essentially reading a panic.
No offence, but I question your understanding of what's actually happening here; and think you're massively underestimating the problem. We've already gone past a 3% death rate; with some data showing it to be as high as 10%, which isn't even getting into the economic impact that will result from this epidemic.

I understand where you're coming from; you don't want a panic. No one does; a panic would just make everything worse. However, it's also important not to downplay the danger; which is what you've been trying to do since this started, and quite frankly, I think you're going too far. Threatening to use your power as owner of this forum to keep people from voicing concerns you think are overblown is nothing short of authoritarian in nature, and runs the risk of getting someone killed if you managed to prevent people from spreading information that might warn others of incoming danger; danger that they might be able to prepare for, and avoid.

Please, continue to advocate for cooler heads to prevail; we all need to hear it in a situation like this. But I strongly suggest you resist the temptation to embrace censorship, because it might be you who is wrong.

Now it seems, in the US conservatives have come around to Rush Limbaugh’s belief the virus is overhyped and part of a ploy to take down Trump.

While I don’t doubt there would be factions in the government, and the Democratic Party that would happily support a large outbreak to tank the economy and bring down Trump, this inculcates an attitude of denial and conspiracy mongering.

The problem isn't just mortality. The Wuhan Flu also has a very high percentage of debilitation of the infected. Even if you don't die and get propper care you will be out of comission from anywhere of 3 weeks to 2 months. That is a lot of lost man hours onnthe economy, of goods not moving down supply lines, of food not being haversted and cash not moving.

On the Korea protest thing: if South Korea really is driving towards communism, that would be a bigger public health risk than this disease.

It is not a highly infectious super-SARS. It is far less lethal than SARS. There is absolutely no proof of the death toll being inflated by more than an order of magnitude from the official reports whereas the number of infections necessarily drives the rate down. Finally the debilitation is only in the seriously ill, who are mostly elderly to begin with. A bunch of 60-90 year olds being unable to get out of bed for two months is not going to crash the economy.

Hmm, so Trump is putting Pence in charge of the virus response efforts. Smart move really.

Pence has some experience with outbreaks due to MERS. It also shows Trump knows when to delegate to people with a better knowledge base.

I mean, no CEO that doesn't know how to delegate goes far. Also worth remembering Trump is a bit of a germophobe. This entire thing may be hitting too close to home for him.

@Zachowon did you say you were to be stationed in South Korea?

Your fellow members are getting infected.

Brazil confirmed infected.

I know. Camp Caroll is on lockdown with Degu being quarantined.

All bases are on lockdown now. You can leave base, just hard too. Except carol.
All sit down places are closed on base, so texas roadhouse and the like all closed. Told to avoid large group areas. Especially places outside of the base.
Hmmm....
Yeah that is all for now that we were told.

From someone stationed south of Seoul.
Does not seem like that is happening

California confirmed. It's almost certain now.

Germany overwhelmed.

Stupid bitch.

Punishment for panic mongers.

Uh oh.

Bears at risk.

Fucking cults.

A Dengue fever like situation seem to be developing here. Multiple infections, each one stronger than the last. IIRC Dengue has 3 stages. Regular Dengue, harsh Dengue and hemorrhagic dengue. No points for guessing why the last one is the most dangerous.

First day where the number of new reported international cases has surpassed those within China. Though considering how face saving reported numbers have been in places like China and Iran, take it with a grain of salt.
