Woodrow Wilson Respect Thread

Given how much of a fuckwit Wilson was, it distresses me that he managed to beat Big Teddy at the ballot box.
Without going into TR's quality, I only wish to point out that this election was irony in action. In 1860 a DNC split ticket gave Lincoln a win, while in 1912 the GOP fielded two candidates, allowing the Democrats to win for the third time since 1856 ...

All in favor of tearing down Wilson’s Tomb in the event of a second American Civil War/Revolution and we win?

(Normally, I’d be against such a thing. But considering how much of a massive fuck-up Wilson was…he deserves nothing but a normal tombstone in the dirt. And that’s me being generous. What I’d really like to do is burn his corpse if there’s anything left, salt the ashes and dump the remains into a swamp)

He's buried in a Cathedral IIRC.

I tend to be against iconoclasm generally anyhow. Even though he is much maligned now it's not universal and he's not a Hitler or whatever.

Looking over the memorials of him, I don't see any particular reason to remove his Presidential Library or various historical sites like his Boyhood home or whatever. It's probably basically a museum which is the prevailing logic for the minimum of preservation ATM.

I don't see any statues of him anywhere being reported up ATM which is interesting. And we don't need to throw up any new ones most certainly. ;)

Back on topic - WeeWee was no Adams, Jefferson or Madison - these guys in 1914 would had gone to war.
Against the Entente.

Why didn’t we get THAT timeline?!

Also mind giving more details? What would have caused them to go to war? The British blockade? Other shenanigans the Brits were doing at the time…?

The blockade.
British bullshit with what's contraband. That should had sufficed. For some time the USA demanded that cotton (sic) be exempt - some Senator pushed that through - and the British complied.
French declaring that if German ships are sold to US interests and reflagged, they will confiscate them as German (I read this on a discussion board, so this might be true).
Look at the Quasi War and 1812 and compare to 1914 - IMO the Presidents of THEN would not had suffered such pissing over neutrals' rights.

Damnit why did people in 1914 USA have to be such damn Anglo-philes and forget that Britain is the enemy?!

Incidentally, you might like an alternative timeline I am working on.

I watched the video. Intersting. Although the maker is biased as hell - "he did not do any awful things as NJ Governor, but he doubtlessly would had if he'd been in that post longer".

Would you mind explaining your reasoning? Because you are just begging attention with a statement like that...
He didn't have any respect for the separation of power. Roosevelt invented the modern concept of executive orders. This excess above of presidential authority set much of the precedent for Woodrow Wilson being able to make policy decisions that he did.

And his greed for power made him disrespect the Party's choice and sabotage Taft's campaign, putting Wilson in the White House.

It wasn't greed for power that made him want to run again, it was the fact that Taft and the GoP had been working to undo a lot of what he'd accomplished during his first two terms. Also, nearly half the party felt that the nomination had been stolen, which is why the party split. The Republican party had been at odds with TR since he was an assemblyman in NY. Hell, the entire reason he was McKinley's VP was an attempt by the party to end his political career. So if any sabotage was going on, it was by the party against TR. And their greed for power was what put Wilson in the White House. For what it's worth, the party membership demonstrated to the leadership who they had actually wanted, because TR absolutely pasted Taft. Honestly it's not too dissimilar to what's going on with Trump and the GoP party elite.
