What is Reactionarism - Short Reactionary FAQ

1. What is Reactionarism?
Reactionarism is a set of ideas based on rejection of modernist, progressive philosophy. In the essence, reactionarism is anti-progressivism just as progressivism is anti-reactionarism. The term itself has origins in the French Revolution, describing those who opposed it and wished to return to previous state of affairs.

Foundation of reactionary philosophy is the importance of tradition and rejection of anything that destroys it, because destruction of tradition means destruction of human soul and humanity itself. Progressivism believes that technological progress should be followed by the social progress, and that social progress automatically leads to a better society. Needless to say, reactionarism rejects these arguments. As a result, it is a fundamental antithesis to progressivism and progressive ideologies such as Marxism. Progressives look to the future and upwards; reactionaries look to the past and downwards. Progressives want to build a Tower of Babel; reactionaries want to build a low-lying fortress with solid foundations. And all the while, conservatives are happily tending to their own garden, preserving what they know but not looking towards anything lying in the distance.

One of the big problems with Progressives is their one-size-fits-all desire to impose their "new and improved" way of living on everyone, whether we want it or not.

I should hope the same is not true of Reactionaries, that they are willing to recognize that one size does not fit all, that different peoples have different traditions.

That is actually one obstacle reactionaries and conservatives both face - progressives are a Borg collective who believe that you can force everybody into the same mold, and so can much more easily organize on a global level and across borders.

You know, I could get behind this ideology very well. I used to think conservatism would be a good ideology for someone who doesn't like rapid changes that much, but I did dabble with the thought of becoming neo-reactionary.

That is how I became a reactionary: basically, I realized that conservatism is essentially a form of progressivism, because it has accepted all of the fundamental progressive tenets, and thus can never win against it.

this is all well and good so long as the neo-reactionary leaders don't look out the window and go "There's land on them thier hills." vain ambition has a habit of destroying as much as (if not more than) it creates and once leaders eye that nice vineyard and suddenly decide that said vineyard needs to be "liberated" from the heathans "Cough cough Roman Imperialism Cough cough Manifest destiny" sorry had a tickle in my throat there. Then that neo-reactionary government suddenly becomes just as invasive and authoritarian as the globalist government it tried to fight against. The root cause of the majority of evils tend to fall into one of two camps, greed and vanity. In order for it to work, the people have to be willing to stand up and go "No we are content the way things are knock these delusions of grandeurs off or we will make you knock it off."

it's why I believe the "Right to fight." is the single most important right that should be kept vigilantly at all cost. because in the end you cannot trust anyone except for yourself and your friends to protect you from a a stranger's vain ambition.

If leaders decide that, neither constitution nor the elections will prevent them from doing it. It is, in fact, already happening all over the West.

Government is inherently evil, no matter its form, but government with long tradition behind it tends to be less evil than something that was just recently pulled out of somebody's backside. It is no surprise that most mass murdering governments were leftist.

Perhaps, but I say it's better to die a warrior's/martyr's death than to take it like a concubine. But I can only speak for myself I come from a few different prominent cultures known for not backing down and have military family members (an uncle, and both grandfathers whom are sadly no longer with me) so I come from a different cloth.

Thing is, historically, revolutions against evils tended to produce even worse evils. American Revolution could be considered an exception, but then again it was less of a "revolution against evil" and more of a "what the heck is going on... oh, we are having a revolution?" thing.

It wasn't a revolution. It was a War of Independence and the Continentals had no interest in throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

This has been true of modernity.

But there have been plenty of conservative revolutions in history that proceded to lead to a long period of stablity. Han China for example was a drastic improvement over the legalist nightmare world it replaced.

Not to the people who are starving and getting crushed by the regime they are under. Survival is a heck of a motivator for change. At that point you've hit rock bottom. If the next regimen is just as evil if not more so you've lost nothing, "but think about your neighbor..." To heck with my neighbor I'm starving.

It's easy to criticize revolutions A. With Centuries of hindsight and B. The comfort of a climate controlled house. We weren't the ones starving living in filth covered slums. We are getting to that point though especially if California is anything to go by.

Pretty sure the people who were murdered would disagree with you there.

The legalists killed so many people and the first emperor was such a psycotic transition tyrant that he gave chinese culture PTSD that lasted generations. Their removal and replacement by the Han dynasty which has often been called one of china's golden ages was a good thing.

It always sucks to be the one who dies in a civil war or revolution these are not nice events after all. But it also sucks to die in a Famine, or a natural disaster. Sometimes a system becomes incapable of meaningful reform. The elite gets so far up its own ass and so evil that the only way to save the people from them is to remove them from power.

Its not a fun process, but many were the times in human history where there wasn't any other choice.

Good is an copium word to help people sleep better at night because people want to pretend their life is a story with them as the hero.

It's the animal fighting to survive nothing more. But hey that's part of the reason why I think the only true "natural right" we are given is the right to fight.
