Battletech Welcome to the Jungle

Apropos of nothing; it has just occurred to me that Speaker lost an opportunity when he decided on the Helepolis as Weber's Warriors artillery mech, instead of a modified Mackie(which could be fitted with a Sniper, or maybe even two Thumpers).

Such a mech could have been called... the Mackarty.

I believe they call the structure a ... gibbet. Yes, just out front there.

Now, gral, can I call you gral? Why don’t you come this way and we can have a short discussion ...

Eh, what's the problem? We already have a J. Edgar hover tank, why not a Mackarty?

The only one who is permitted puns that awful in this thread is me.

Not to mention the LCAF would probably have a collective seizure if someone used a Assault Mech as a Artillery platform. So nobody show them the BullShark ok?

mind you the Lyrans do need a bunch of fast mediums so I get the impression that the CAC might make its long term goal to make more copies of its two existing lines. Well and make that Vulcan derived design on the ASF side of things

From a Watsonian standpoint, The LRM spam Vulcan derivative might be a mistake. Lucifers are around because they're cheap. If you have money you get a Thunderbird or if you're blind to the faults of SLDF aerospace doctrine a Chippewa. Yes, the LCAF would love to use the savings from cutting graft to displace the Lucifers, but they're probably going to prefer buying proven designs from companies that are too big to fail.

The Thunderbird and Chippewa will naturally displace Lucifers as production rises with recovered technology. They won't get them completely out until they make the switch to Omnifighters and pass all their Hellcats and Lightnings to the militias, but they don't have enough left in front line service to bother doing an anti-Clan refit when the other fighters get them OTL and the CAC's insights into factory restoration would tend to start the replacement process early.

In Weber's place if I thought I could tool up an ASF production line from specs I'd try to get the Hellcat. I think it should be in the public domain under the new law since Mitchell Vehicles doesn't produce it anymore. You can do almost the same thing to it as the Stingray (maybe not PPCs in the wings, but it has 8 tons of lasers in the nose so it can certainly manage a PPC there) and you can also do a version with the 360 XLFE, which I'd convert the XL380 line to instead of the XL340. You can also put them in Crossbows (drop your version back to LRM-10s and use endosteel and it'll fit) and if you can ship them to Alarion, Bowie Aerospace can put them in Chippewas. If the Phoenix Hawk is public domain or you can get Coventry Metalworks to work with you they can also go in those (you have to use endo and DHS and drop the machineguns but they have the crits to also switch to ferro to improve their questionable armor).

Because for Lyrans, the mechs start (tenously) at 60 tons.
A vile calumny. Mechs start at 55 tons with the Griffin. You wouldn't insult the Archon's throne room decor, would you?

If a regular Griffin is within a couple clicks of the enemy something has gone terribly wrong. Mind you I wouldn't be surprised if the ones in the Lyran Throne Room are of the Royal variant with its twin SRM6s

have an idea about a way to get more funds. make a list of all the mechs that they could work on. take that list and buy hulked mechs or tanks. then open a refit yard. you just need a union with mech bays to start. it also would act as a training unit for your support teams. you can sell the refitted and repaired mechs and tanks or offer trade ins. turn in your old x class mech and get this x that has updated DHS for X cash. Say you have that old Panther your granddad captured. if you've got the cash and a month? you will get it back with a new heat exchange system and 3 more MLs. The best way to increase the effectiveness of old mechs is DHS.

The problem with that being a workable idea is the lack of shipping to do so and the fact that Catachan is very much not located in a central location. Well that and the LCAF probably has called dibs on every double heatsink they can get away with
