"We're in 2024 now, and it's about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away." - Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy of the upcoming New Jedi Order film.

Jude Watson, Ann Crispin, Kathy Tyers, Charlene Newcomb, Patricia Jackson, Martha Wells, Barbara Hambly, Vonda McIntyre, Karen Traviss, Rebecca Moesta, Elaine Cunningham, Christie Golden, Elizabeth Hand, Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff, Karen Miller...

And here I thought all these women existed, and wrote SW books before 2014! But I must have imagined all these people and all their stories.

what's modern to day will be retro tomorrow...then classic...then old...I know because I'm watching the cartoons I grew up with become that as we speak.
"Man, that Xbox is such a retro console!"

"I know, right? The Playstation 2, too!"

I die a little inside when I hear teenagers and people in their early twenties say that. sigh

Especially when talking about games. "My first C&C game was Tiberium Wars, back in '07. I was just a kid then, like 7 years old? Man, we need a remastering of such a classic."

Way to make me feel my age, you fucking punks. :ROFLMAO:

My first game was "Pong."

In a grimy backroom arcade in a burger joint.

With an ashtray on the console.

Well, my first console? The ORIGINAL Atari, with the fake woodgrain finish they just had to put on EVERYTHING and that joystick that had a tendency to break?

Anyway....Star Wars? Disney? I can't add as much to here other than what others above me said, @Husky_Khan , @Jormungandr , @Skallagrim , @Typhonis , etc. I am not AS well read or as much of a fan of the Star Wars franchise as some, admittedly, but from what I've seen? It's dead everyone, sadly. A bitter pill. Don't support this crap, don't watch, don't buy it, don't read it. Write and make your own stories. One shameless example in another genre if @CurtisLemay doesn't mind me pointing out? His excellent "Fix fic" Clover Spear set in the Battletech Universe.

Check out Alan Dean Foster's "Splinter of the Mind's Eye," written before "The Empire Strikes Back." It is eerie, and interesting in how Mr. Foster expanded on The Force based on what little was known at the time.

Okay, here's an example.

So whats the deal with the incoming new boss girl Star Wars disaster?

I don't think she's the new Girl Boss, just the planned Director of a new Star Wars film or films.

This 'New Jedi Order' film is supposed to be the next actual Star Wars film and bring back Rey. It looks like she'll be helping form a new Jedi Order and Temple and all that jazz.

Commodore 64, though the Mega Drive II was really my main "first" console. That's a retro console, lol.

Atari 2600 actually. Anyone else try to play the game ET?
Man that old Atari in my grandma's basement got a load of use. pretty sure she just picked it and a shit ton of shovelware games up on garage sales. there must have been 4-5 copies of ET in those drawers holding way too many games.

Okay, how many of you are just memeing at this point?
Not me.

My first "console" was actually the C64, but my main console was the Mega Drive II (and later I had the ill-fated 32X, too).

In the 90's, I had both a Nintendo 64 and a Playstation 1, since my parents fucked up and only meant to get one of them (they miscommunicated and each bought a console). Apparently on Christmas Day, they looked at each other behind my and my brother's backs with an "aw, shit" look.

Still, I wasn't complaining. :p

I got more into PC gaming then, but I did get an OG XBox when they were first released, too.

My first console was the Sega Dreamcast. You know, the console with almost no decent games on it?

Still, the Sonic Adventures series was pretty fun. Even if a 3D Sonic sometimes controls like a cheetah running on ice. Hell, I still sometimes play the first one on Xbox 360 when im feeling nostalgic.

Then we eventually upgraded to the PS2 and Xbox. I sunk so many hours of my life into Sly Cooper and Kingdom Hearts, while my older brother got the first Halo game. I occasionally got to play co-op when none of his friends were over.

I still find it bullshit that so many games have gotten rid of split screen co-op. That was some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing video games, and now hardly any series have it.

Also kept up with the Nintendo handhelds up until the 3ds came out. Pretty much only used them for Pokémon.

Now? I’m primarily a PC gamer. Though I did get a PS4 on sale so I could play Bloodborne.

Never had a Woman shape stories in Star Wars before?

Huh... I didn't even know Kathleen Kennedy was Trans.

God, I hate this shit. It's like Disney is trying to derail Star Wars. I have no idea who this person is aside from that she likes to make men uncomfortable but I'm fairly sure women have had a part in Star Wars since the 1970s. We have had women write books, comics, movies. tv shows, and video games. In what area has Star Wars not had women shape it because I'm just not seeing it.
