Culture Welcome to Dismal Disney.

The simple fact is: Kathleen Kennedy was a very good producer, whose career track record was one of many successes. She also worked decades to become Spielberg's favourite. Lucas relied heavily on Spielberg's glowing recommendation of Kennedy.

The problem is that a good producer isn't automatically a good (or even adequate) studio boss. Kennedy isn't cut out for it. She's great at the slimy politics, is why she got the job. She got the job, but she doesn't 'get' the job, as in: she doesn't understand it, and lacks the actual skill to carry out the core tasks.

To compare: if you take a politician who is extremely good at networking and the dirty business of getting laws passed, and put that person in charge of a task that requires specific concrete skills (for instance, the supreme command of an army at war)... things will go very wrong, and very quickly.

The corporate equivalent of that happened here.

She doesn't 'get' the job because she wanted to run things her way, e.g. by pumping in feminazi social justice trash in.

Lukas put her in charge because he thought she would just follow his plan, which means he saw her as someone who can be relied upon to follow orders.

And apparently made sure her contract is ironclad and makes it extremely hard to kick he rout.

For dlfuck's sake, he could have demanded a clause on the sales contract that obliges Disney to follow his outline for the next episodes.

He wanted to have his cake and eat it, too.

It's possibly. Somtimes the worst thing that could happen to a person is getting a promotion. Skills do not often translate. Though that scares me though, because that would mean by sheer incompitence alone, KK could not have done a better job destroying Star Wars if she tried.

hi Disney I'm enjoying them dumpster fire.

Eh, this is a nothingburger.

Disney cruise packages start at a thousand or so and you can typically throw down a cruise for two people for 13-1500. The Tomorrow Tower isn't the typical cabin, it's a super-expensive luxury cabin meant to peel cash off of mega-millionaire whales. It's common for cruise ships to have a gigantic luxury cabin that the wealthiest can book for bragging rights.

It's worth noting that 100,000 dollar berth has already been booked so it must be in the right price range...

and we wonder why wealthy Americans don't stay wealthy.

this guy covers ultra luxury stuff. 3 night luxury train ride. 2324.12 for the smaller room. 2905.16 for the bigger one.

1609.79 to stay at the Burj Al Arab a night.

Man do the wealthy live it up. still for a hundred thousand? you could stay at the Burj for a month for half the cost... fuck that is a niche market. you are talking high end 7 digit or more only for a market.

Yeah, but that's the el-cheapo room on the Burj, intended for mere hundred-thousandaires who are barely above Plebians, really. It's actually more pricey than the Disney cruise for the cheaper cabins. The high-end room on the Burj Al Arab that might compare with the Disney highest-end cabin is 24K a night. And the Disney Cabin is for several days, and has three-bedrooms and has more amenities than the Burj to boot.

Well, speaking of other news from Clownfish....

Just....no comment.

Also, I trust everyone heard the Galactic Starcruiser Hotel, or whatever they call it, that other "great" Disney idea, is officially closing in September?? I mean, it was only open a year? Wow, not good.

And it is done...

A mere five years and $250 million investment, the Galactic Starcruiser has crashed and burned, immolating the careers of hundreds of imagineers.

Date of Death, September 30th, 2023.

While some may laugh, I'm not. Say what you will, but let's not forget in spite of it all there was the cast and crew who tried to make it work, tried to make it an experience for those who did come, and soon are going to be out of a job. No, I don't care for Disney, the concept should have been tweaked a lot, but I feel for these poor guys who tried to make it a fun experience and are now getting the shit end of the stick.

Shit like that Burj hotel are basically Veblen goods, there usually is just 1 provider and a very small group of people that can afford them.

Meanwhile, Disney is a company that is supposed to provide mainstream entertainment.

Maybe they can find employment at universal or a other competitor.

Now that the strike is finally over, will we see Disney continue to implode?
