Culture Welcome to Dismal Disney.

And now further news. Disney's "Chief Diversity Officer" Latondra Newton who came on in 2017 and oversaw a ridiculous number of race swaps, political correctness, "diversity changes", changes to rides in the name of "diversity", etc. etc. has "departed". Or as the news was announced at 9:30 at night by the HR office with no farewell note, was likely booted.

Surely this is it for Kathleen Kennedy? Star Wars down the toilet, and now Indiana Jones? What should have been two inexhaustible golden gooses are now dead on her watch.

How in God's name does she still have a job?

Given some of the stuff that has been happening to her? Snubbed by Spielberg, her pet hotel being closed down in September. Plus the CFO being fired? I don't think she is long for the post.

It matters but it can't happen all at once. An executive at her level can't just be told "You're fired, clean out your desk/grab your stuff." like a secretary or fast food worker. She'll have too much blackmail material, know too many critical company secrets, be able to do too much damage to company interests on the way out. More than likely powerful forces are working against her in the background, but in public the company is going to put on the face of supporting her, possibly for months more while her power base is undercut, until suddenly she "decides to take another opportunity" and leaves ostensibly of her own free will.

Well, speaking of Kathleen Kennedy rumors...

Now, to point out, both channels are pretty skeptical of rumors involving Kathleen Kennedy, but some "stuff" may be legitimately happening at Disney and Lucasfilm in light of this latest (yet another) franchise disaster.

If Universal Studios and Nintendo are both looking to break into and take some of Disney's market share in regards to theme parks, princesses, toys, movies, etc., you know there's blood in the water.

EDIT: More news, after gutting ESPN, now Disney is doing the same to National Geographic, a formerly respected institution no less as well...

NO, these are not signs of a healthy company.

Well, part of the rumor is that Kennedy's official Lucasfilm Emails have been shut down, not deleted shut down. Executives from Disney have been seen in the Lucasfilm offices. The people have no clue who they are but seem to work for the higher-ups in Disney and this has them scared. Kennedy's Callender has a two-week block of time for 'paid vacation' starting June 30.

Take it all with a couple of pinches of salt but this does NOT look good for her.

The email bit, as explained to me means the company can still look through her e mails. She , however cannot alter them. Or so I think this is how it works.

Yeah, I think they've finally had enough.

Her bullshit and the damage she and her sycophants have done has basically killed multiple brands, all of which should've been golden gooses for just printing money.

She's now a liability to the survival of Disney itself.

Indy 5 may be bombing EVEN WORSE than predicted...

In the words of WDWPro, "Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm are now both fully exposed."

It would seem co-star(or is that "replacement star"?) Phoebe Waller Bridge is not taking the news well.

EDIT: A bit more clarification, they were predicting a $65 million gross for the opening weekend for this, which for a movie of this production size, $329 million (or possibly more) along with the additional marketing costs and salaries for the actors is ABYSMAL. They are now predicting possibly a weekend gross closer to $58 million.

Disney has lost almost $900 billion since June of last year til June of this year on their eight latest big budget theatrical releases!

Western Journal said:
The movies, from Disney or Disney-owned Pixar and Marvel Studios, are "Lightyear," "Thor: Love and Thunder," "Strange World," "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," "The Little Mermaid," and "Elemental."

According to Valliant Renegade, these movies cost $2.75 billion to produce and market but only brought in $1.86 billion, resulting in a loss of $890 million.

The interesting thing is the YouTubers analysis actually excluded some other major Disney releases that landed with poor reception and numbers. Like Pinocchio, the live action remake which cost $150 million to make and was only released on Disney+ as well as other streaming exclusives like Peter Pan & Wendy or Hocus Pocus 2 which cost over $40 million each and yet didn't help at all with Disney+ losing hundreds of thousands of subscribers.

Regardless this number will only get worse with Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny most likely.

On the plus side (but with caveats) of course, Avatar 2 somehow likely offset all of these failures even though no one in the world is talking about the film. James Cameron's own company produces the Avatar films but Disney handles distribution of them so the amount of Disney's take in that films profits is impacted.
