Got a particular pattern in mind? I might be able to point you in the right direction if you're looking to convert something.
Speaking of converting, I got a hold of some more conventional models (an He111 and an M4 high speed tractor) that I was planning to use for a 40k conversion, and looking at the design of those kits, I'm really seeing why people say GW stuff is simplistic in comparison (though oddly comparable in price). The He111 kit comes with an entire engine assembly, hidden away inside the aircraft's skin with only the exhaust vents visible, whereas similar GW kits will just have a hollow plastic brick with some exhausts molded onto it.
That's great in terms of detail, but it also means it's a much bigger pain to paint, since I have to build the model in like a dozen different subassemblies paint them all, then glue the whole mess together, than paint all the joints. Whereas on a GW model, you can pretty easily build it all at once and then paint without issue, and even stuff like the interior can usually be done when the model is mostly done and will just need a few extra parts added to finish it. That He 111 Z build is going to be really fun, given how complicated the H16 is.
The other kits also, inexplicably, don't come with any crews. You can build the He 111 so it's got the landing gear up and is flying, but not so that it's got anyone actually flying it.....why?
