2026 MI Governor: Duggan for Governor ?
Not shocked about 3-term Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan (D) announcing he will NOT be seeking reelection in 2025, which is fueling speculation that he might launch campaign for the MI Governor's Residence in 2026 to succeed outgoing MI Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D), who is term limited from seeking reelection.

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024: State Gubernatorial Funeral Service for former CT Governor Jodi Rell (R) at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, CT. Rell served as the Nutmeg State's 87th Governor from July 1st, 2004 to January 5th, 2011: she ascended to the Governorship following the resignation of then-Governor John Rowland (R) & won election to 1st full 4-year term overwhelmingly in 2006, but didn't seek reelection in 2010.

Rell died from a brief illness in FL on November 20th at the age of 78.

Wednesday, December 4th, 2024: CT Governor Ned Lamont (D), who is one of the nation's most popular Governors in the nation recently, announced he won't decide on whether or not to seek reelection to a 3rd term in 2026 until following the end of the 2025 legislative session of the CT General Assembly.

Democratic Governors Association elects new chairman & vice chairman (December 7th, 2024)
Saturday, December 7th, 2024: KS Governor Laura Kelly (D) tapped to serve as Chairman of the Democratic Governors Association & KY Governor Andy Beshear (D) tapped to serve as Vice Chairman (plus Beshear is also named Chairman-elect for the upcoming 2026 elections).


 
2026 MI Governor: James for Governor ?
Speculation swirling that Congressman John James (R-MI 10th) might seek the Governorship & assuming Duggan takes crucial chunks of votes from the likely Dem nominee, MI Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D), there's a 50-50 chance the GOP might win back the Governor's Residence in 2026.
