Another factor to consider is hormone based birth control screws with women's brains. they aren't attracted to the same guys while on it as off it. so a woman who is on the afore mentioned birth control gets married and then goes off of it will generally find that she does not find the man she married to be attractive to her anymore. and the hormone birth control is supplied to women for just about anything from if they feel they got bad acne to bad menstrual cramps to heavy flow to being too moody.
as for the happy as a metric I think it would be better to think more in terms of a fulfilling marriage. or perhaps more like how in the American constitution you have the right to pursuit of happiness not the right to be happy. I don't know offhand if there is a better word to describe it. not fleeting like happiness is but something deeper.
