Things get worse in The Southwest

At this point I'm pretty sure the only spending plan California has is to make some short-term trims about the edges and keep soldiering on in either anticipation of a great economic revival or, perhaps more likely and maybe even more wanted, a massive federal absorption of debt in the name of equity and/or climate (or a disguising of such that functionally does the same--like the Feds eating hundreds of billions in spending for Cali's high-speed rail boondoggle to actually bear fruit, and by that spending spur a bunch of construction and infrastructure-spending and bullshit in California).

It's almost impressive the state has managed to screw itself up so hard, really. The only thing pushing people away is born from either government incompetence (fires from lacking electrical maintenance by PG&E) or maliciousness (California government bullshit is memetic for a reason), other than that they've got great weather, beaches, roads everywhere, a varied but relatively mild climate with no real natural disaster issues (besides earthquakes, but those have even been pretty mild-seeming in the last few decades?), they were a hub of the tech-sector with Silicon Valley, they're major west-coast ports for the entire country...Like, people have a big list of pros for staying around and the only major one in the column that's leading them to move away to the point of creating UHaul shortages is their government(s) being totally fucked.

I guess this sort of environment has managed to attract a critical mass of people looking for an easy life and/or receptive to feel good ideas. So then they started to pursue more and more feel good ideas, up to a point when life stopped being so easy due to some of those ideas being fucking stupid and/or expensive... And now those who are set to pay for the ever increasing feel good idea burden are leaving, while people out to benefit from those ideas are attracted there. This is a death spiral that cannot end without either a crash or an even bigger socialist magnet arising, and the latter would be a high bar to jump.

I wonder if Nancy has bought any property in Florida or North Carolina to retire on?

she has.

Her one job was to get california a bailout and she pissed away that oportunity in the name of Jan 6th... she's very much in the position of having legitimate worries about being epstined for that fuck up.

What happened to California? It had Republican Governors for 32 of the 52 years between 1959 and 2011. It sent Reagan to the White House. Before Clinton, it voted Red every Presidental Election between Clinton and Truman.

What went wrong?

in before they start going after Republican 'kulaks'.
Have you seen the newest "White Rural Rage" book they're peddling? The kulakization of rural Americans has been ongoing for at least a decade if not longer. If you visit certain other sites you'll see them insist that MAGAts aren't legitimately distressed economically, they're all members of rural petty gentry mad at the loss of their privileges. Which is literally what the Soviets said of the original kulaks.

The baby boomers soil.

California was their play ground expecially the left wing ones, and they are in the process of breaking all of their toys on the way out.

Republicans made a deal with democrats in... 1986 I think?

Illegal immigration was becoming a major problem and the border wasn't being secured. (Sound familiar?)

So the deal was we do whatever it takes to secure the border, stop illegal immigration, and in exchange we give amnesty to the people already here.

The law was passed. Democrats never held up their part of the bargain. And about 3 million new legal Democrat voters turned several red states into swing states and California blue forever.

I might have some details wrong but that's the main thing and why they are so desperate to do another amnesty bill as with over 30 million illegal immigrants... that's it. Democrats in power everywhere forever.

Infiltration. Hollywood has been Red for a very long time and that naturally made its way into the state government, where they have lied and cheated their way into the positions they now hold and will continue to lie and cheat to stay there. Also, California has been the scene of a lot of illegal immigration over the decades, which has allowed them to gain more voters and claim more constituents that must be represented.

"Congress enacted the Immigration Reform and Control Act (also known as the Simpson-Mazzoli Act or the Reagan Amnesty) and President Ronald Reagan signed it into law in November 1986. This act introduced civil and criminal penalties to employers who knowingly hired undocumented immigrants or individuals unauthorized to work in the U.S. However, the act also offered legalization, which led to lawful permanent residence (LPR) and prospective naturalization to undocumented migrants, who entered the country prior to 1982. Farm workers who could validate at least ninety days of employment also qualified for lawful permanent residency.

U.S. law required qualified applicants, who had continuously resided in the U.S. since 1982, to apply within a one-year window, from May 1987 to May 1988, pay a fee, and provide extensive documentation, which included fingerprints, employment history, proof of continuous residency, and other documents. After 1986, U.S. law required hired employees to demonstrate work eligibility by filling out an I-9 form and submitting certifications of citizenship or work authorization. Applicants also had to complete interviews and medical examinations. Employers who failed to document 1-9 forms upon inspection were charged with warnings, fines, or criminal proceedings. The General Accounting Office (GAO) was also established to investigate employer discrimination against authorized immigrant workers.

An estimated 3 million individuals—mostly of Hispanic descent—gained legal status through IRCA, securing economic and social opportunities as legal residents of the United States and gaining protection from deportation. In an effort to halt unlawful crossings and unauthorized workers, the IRCA also approved increased border security resources, including higher budgets for the Border Patrol and the Department of Labor."

The first summary of the law I found on Google.

The hell is that logic?
hey have lied and cheated their way into the positions they now hold
You mean they won elections or rose through the legal ranks.

Seriously, don't give me propaganda answers. I despise being lied to.

Ah, so that's where they got the idea of using Latino immigrants to break the established voter blocs. It's been done before, and will be done again.

Then why don't the Republicans try to stop it? They do want to stay in power, don't they?

Observation on how communists work.

No, I mean they lied and cheated, as communists always do.

 The communists will tell you this themselves if they feel secure enough in their position or if they think they are among comrades.

They do. When Trump was president he did a lot of stuff to reduce illegal immigration. Very successfully.

And the instant Biden came in he got rid of all of it and told them not to enforce any laws.

It's a hard thing to stop when one side ignores the law and does everything they can to flood the country with non citizens.

Remember when Obama sued Arizona when they tried to enforce immigration laws? The democrats are actively trying to prevent anyone from stopping it.

And there are enough rinos in the republican party to sabotage any serious legislation on it.

The bolded shouldn't be effective. And if it can be proven, is impeachable.

And naturally, the Democrats will do what they can to win. Why the Republican Party doesn't leverage their current power in Congress to fight back is anyone's guess.

The establishment is corrupt and they are absolutely terrified that Trump might get back in. Many high ranking Republicans are part of the establishment.

They aren't fighting the democrats because a decent chunk of the Republicans are working with them to try and stop Trump.
