The Americas The Tyranny of Trudeau's Canada

I suspect Justin is just doing whatever Biden tells him to do tbh since Canada is essentially a satellite of the US at best and an outright puppet at worse

Totally deserved. Trudeau's government violated Canadians human rights to an even greater extent than they had previously by freezing people from accessing their private, legal goods with nary a court order in sight on the make-believe pretext that some truckers not trucking is an equivelant emergency to world wars or government officials kidnapping.

A strike in response is an amazingly reserved response that should be cheered for its restraint.

Can a fella get a link?

Legally speaking, the banks don't really have a right NOT to participate. If a financial institution receives a valid legal order to freeze an account (and the Emergency Act makes the orders legal) then refusing to do so is a violation of the law and will see the banks charter pulled.

Banks do not violate government asset freeze requests. There are ways to technically get around a lot of them but most of those run into money laundering/other financial crimes issues and, regardless, are not going to be done (maybe if the person whose account is frozen is buddy buddy with the bank President or the like).

Run on Canadian banks when?

Run on Canadian banks when?
Not anytime soon in all likelihood.

In absolute terms, the number of people potentially hit by the freezes over this are miniscule (thousands). They are also spread across multiple banks.

To get a bank run you need a large percentage of a banks customer base to pull their funds. At least for banks with national operations.

Yes, pulling a million bucks from a bank can have an outsized impact thanks to fractional reserve banking (you put a million in the bank, the bank can issue ten million in loans) but in terms of the scale of the banks in question?

Then you have the issue that bank accounts are practically required to live in modern society. Sure, you can pay for the basics with cash but paying bills? Doing that without an account is incredibly difficult.

---
Incidentally, this is one of the reasons that if you are ever inclined to donate online to basically anything then first go to the gas station and buy one of those VISA debit cards for cash. And don't use your regular email address, use a disposable one (ideally from Proton Mail or the like).

Fortunately for me, since i live in Ottawa, I was able to pop over to Truckistan and give a worthy honker a large wad of cash directly.

Yeah, but these types of legal activity probably won't increase the faith in Canada's banking system as a whole.

What I was wondering is if this might propmt a lot of people to withdraw most of their money and move them into other assets or in banks that are not domiciled in Canada.

For example they might open US bank accounts or something.

Hearing from a friend that UOttawa campus which is a very close to Truckistan is buttoning up.

Shits about the hit the fan soon i think.

BREAKING: Pastor Artur Pawlowski denied bail

Adam Soos was on the scene at the Calgary Remand Centre where Artur is being held in solitary confinement

Alberta Provincial Court Judge Erin Olsen has ordered the renegade Calgary pastor to be held in pre-trial custody, ruling he poses a great threat to public safety, citing his refusal to comply with health orders.

Olsen is rendering decision: the accused will, if released from custody, commit a criminal offense or interfere with the administration of justice. The accused pattern of behavior speaks volumes about his willful commission of offenses and/or violations of court & health orders

Olsen: I have also concluded that the provision of cash bail with or without conditions of release would be unwise and fruitless, given the accused's recent history of paying fines and costs potentially with other people's money.

Olsen: I have concluded that the accused cannot be released on a release order with sureties. In conclusion, I cancel the accused existing release documents pursuant to section 524 sub. 3. And order his detention on the charges before me. (They're keeping Art in jail)

Pawlowski was arrested on February 8 at his home in another high-profile takedown as the first person charged under Alberta’s new Critical Infrastructure Defence Act for allegedly abetting the Coutts, Alberta trucker blockade. That law was created to target eco-radicals who blow up pipelines, but instead, it's been rolled out to deal with a pastor who won't kneel before the government.

Artur is also facing trespassing and mischief over $5000 criminal charges.

His crime this time? He gave an inspirational sermon to the truckers and farmers as they faced off with the government at the border in a fight against lockdown restrictions.

I have been to the Calgary Remand Centre frequently as a result of all the pastor arrests that have taken place, but now for the first time access to the facility has been blocked off. Staff has confirmed that this is because of the Pastor Artur Pawlowski bail hearing.

Artur has now been arrested five times for the apparent crimes of opening his church, feeding the homeless and attending peaceful protests. Thankfully, he has the help of great lawyers, Sarah Miller and Chad Haggerty, through your generous crowdfunding donations to SaveArtur.com.

Artur's next hearing is March 11, 2022, and he needs all the help as he fights for his freedom. To offset his legal costs, please visit SaveArtur.com. All donations there qualify for a charitable tax receipt through the registered Canadian charity, The Democracy Fund.
