The Monegasque Princely Royal Family during happier times: Spring 1981

    September 13th, 1982
    Mont Agel, Monaco

Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of the Principality of Monaco wasn't in a good mood. She was pissed off & had good reason to be pissed off: she busted her youngest daughter, Stephanie & her boyfriend, Paul Belmondo having passionate sex inside one of the bedrooms of the family vacation residence Roc Agel. Stephanie wasn't interested in attending the Institute of Fashion Design. As a matter of fact, she was interested in having hardcore sex with her boyfriend instead of making plans to attend the Institute of Fashion Design in Paris (which Grace had to pull some strings in order to get her daughter into the school). Apparently, Stephanie wasn't interested in fashion, she was interested in going to race car school with her boyfriend including fucking with him non-stop.

This enraged Princess Grace to no end. She had to put her foot down at some point & decided this was the time to do it.

On the morning of September 13th, Princess Grace & her youngest daughter, Princess Stephanie were ending a week-long argument on the usual subject: whether Stephanie was to begin attending the Institute of Fashion Design in Paris, France or as Stephanie would've preferred, attending race car school with her boyfriend at the time, Paul. In order to ironing out the details, as the chauffeur was putting their belongings into the brown Land Rover, he was notified by the Princess Consort, that she, would be driving her youngest daughter alone. The chauffeur attempted to convince the Princess Consort to reconsider, because he felt this was a huge mistake & he didn't think it would feel right about letting them go alone without any backup.

Once Princess Grace & Princess Stephanie left in the brown Land Rover (Grace was driving the vehicle), the chauffeur shook his head & was worried about the potential implications & ramifications if things went wrong.....

Little did he know, things would go wrong & in a hurry quickly!

Just 10 minutes into their journey heading down the narrow, winding CD-37 as it led out of the village of LaTurbie, something wasn't quite right. I mean, something wasn't quite right.

Somewhere overlooking the hill, there was a suspicious creepy person wearing baggy clothing & a large jacket using a weird-looking telescope which was quite unusual. This suspicious strange character was determined to make a point: she aimed at the unspecified target & opened fire using a silencer opening fire: BANG! BANG! BANG!

In the meantime, Yves Philly, who was driving behind the brown Land Rover which Princess Grace was driving, watched in horror as the brown Land Rover negotiated hard hairpin turns as they neared the Cap d'Ali when the vehicle jerked back & forth with the side doors scrapping the mountain side.

'Dear God......stop them. It's suicide!" Philly blasted his horn as hard as he could, getting the attention of the Land Rover, which straightened up for a moment. However, it wasn't too long before the vehicle approached the next curve, which was known as the Devil's Curse.

Upon the loud cracks hitting the front window of the brown Land Rover, the vehicle suddenly accelerated in an excess of 60 miles per HR & quickly flew over the bridge, clipping the treetops as it bounced & rolled down the steep embankment. The brown Land Rover struck a tree near the bottom & rolled onto a pile of rocks, crushing the passenger-side door & roof. Because neither Princess Grace & Princess Stephanie were wearing any seatbelts (to this day, why they didn't wear seatbelts is beyond me so go figure), both Grace & Stephanie bounced around within the interior resulting in severe, devastating, horrific injuries.

Sesto Lequio was minding his business handling his flower growing duties when he heard a loud crash: "What the fuck was that?" Lequio ran outside to see the crushed brown Land Rover in his garden. Knowing people were inside the vehicle, Lequio quickly ran over to the wreckage (didn't notice the bullet holes on the front window) & managed to get an injured Stephanie out of the vehicle by pulling her out. Then he noticed Grace unconscious & bleeding all over the place. The ambulance crew had to pull Grace out of the vehicle.

According to eyewitnesses, they strongly pointed out that had Princess Grace been rushed to a close-by medical center in Nice (where they had better equipment), she might've good a damn good chance of surviving the injuries sustained in the accident. Instead, Princess Grace & Princess Stephanie were taken to the Monaco Hospital in La Calle. One of the leading neurosurgeons described the Princess Consort's treatment as "appalling" & basically incompetent & disastrous. By the time the doctors realized the true extent of Grace's injuries, she was in a irreversible coma. Her husband, Prince Rainier, III made the difficult decision to take his wife off of life support the next day, September 14th at 10:55 PM.

The official version was that Princess Grace had suffered injuries to the brain & the thorax including a fractured femur.

  • Personal Perspective: Foley
    Friday, October 22nd, 1982
    3:00 PM EEST
Somewhere in the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt

Mitchell Foley was in the midst of his steamy sex escapade with Reina Haznueh while he was on vacation in their secret hideout. Both were naked & barefoot on the bed when the phone rang, Mit got up from the bed: "Hello?" Foley's suprerior: Geoffrey Dawson of the US Embassy in Cairo was on the other line: "Foley. I've been trying to get a hold of you and haven't heard anything from you since last week. Where have you've been?"

Foley was flustered & responded: "I'm on vacation in the third day of my vacation week...." Dawson sternly informed him about a plane crash which occurred earlier in the day & that his presence was needed at the US Embassy Compound at once.

Annoyed, Foley told him he'll be there in a few HRS & hung up. Not before he continued having sex with Reina, who enioyed her "vacation exercise" with Foley since these two have been having a secret affair for awhile.

After taking a shower & getting dressed, Foley & Reina got into the vehicle & drove over to the US Embassy Compound in Cairo, where they were informed about the E-4 plane crash. Foley then managed a double-pronged communication radio where he managed to get in contact with one of the CID special agents, who was on the security detail with US Defense Secretary Barry Goldwater when the E-4 Boeing 747-200 aircraft was shot down by the Libyian Army's Death Squad Battalion.

Foley: "This is Mitchell Foley of the US Embassy in Cairo. Can I ask whom I am speaking with please?"

CID Special Agent Travis Patterson: "CID Special Agent Travis Patterson of the US Army Protective Services Battalion."

Foley: "What is the status of Defense Secretary Barry Goldwater?"

Patterson: "I don't know the status of Secretary Goldwater because I'm injured from the crash."

Foley: "I've been told that there are medical paramedics, law enforcement, military personnel and others heading towards you at the crash site right now. Can you tell us any other information about if anyone else is aboard E-4?"

Patterson: "I am not sure. But I think I see several survivors."

  • President Reagan's Biggest Foreign Policy Test!
    11:25 PM EST
    Oval Office, White House
    Washington, DC

    c16824-13a.jpg

President Ronald Reagan: "Good evening. I am coming on the air tonight to inform the American people of recent developments that have transpired in the Middle East this evening in a surprise attack, the Libyian Army's Death Squad Battalion under the direct supervision and orders of the so-called Maximum Leader, Colonel Mummar Gaddafi, launched a terrorist attack with violent force. They shot down via surface-to-air missile, Boeing 747-200 E-4 Aircraft which has resulted in the deadly ramifications, which has also resulted in increase of mass casualties among those aboard.

Now as of this moment, there's been confirmation of other passengers being severely injured from the plane crash. We are working with our Egyptian counterparts in the search and rescue efforts including other measures.

The status of Secretary of Defense Barry Goldwater is that he is unconscious and currently undergoing emergency surgery. That is all I have to inform on you but I ask all of the American people to pray for Secretary Goldwater and the countless passengers, who became the victims of this barbaric terrorist attack. May their families be comforted that we won't ever forget them.

I have instructed the Deputy Secretary of Defense to begin preparations for full-scale military and nuclear retaliation against the Libyian regime and other foreign actors involved in this disgusting and barbaric act of terrorism. I am giving Colonel Gaddafi an ultimatum: cease and desist altogether immediately and leave the country withim 48 HRS. To not do so will result in the United States initiating full military operations against these terrorists at the appropriate time of our choosing. Tomorrow, I shall go before a special Joint Session of Congress and ask for the authorization needed to prepare a military response to this barbaric terrorist attack. We as Americans, will rise to the challenge, together, with grit, determination, and unrelenting resolve.

My message to the Maximum Leader tonight simple: We are not ever going to listen to your sadistic twisted lectures on history. May God bless America and may God bless the United States Armed Forces."

Kennedy (D-MA), the staunchest opponent of the Reagan administration & likely contender for the 1984 Democratic Party presidential nomination, was hesitant but ultimately voted in favor.

Immediately following the authorization passed by both houses of Congress, President Reagan meets with acting Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger to begin weighing military response. Two different task forces (named MacArthur & Eisenhower) on each side of the Gulf are deployed towards Libya with the USS Enterprise immediately moving across the Atlantic to reach the shores of the Libyan-Egyptian border, while the USS McCain settles course for Libya in the Mediterranean Sea. The planned military operation involves American planes gaining air superiority in the skies, before dropping paratroopers in to take out the Libyan Armed Forces including rescuing hundreds taken as prisoners-of-war. From there, the operational plan is to seize Benghazi & Tripoli & subduing the Gaddafi loyalist forces remaining following the aerial bombardment.

Aftermath from the 1982 Midterm Elections

The Democratic Party was having a good night on Election Night across the country in all 51 states including the CA Democratic Party inside the Golden State maintaining their majorities in both chambers of the CA State Legislature as well as keeping control of the downballot statewide offices & celebrating the resounding landslide victory of United States Senator Wilson Riles (D-CA), who easily throttled Congressman Barry Goldwater, Jr., (R-CA) in the CA US Senate special election.

However, there were some bright spots for the GOP & in particularly, the CA Republican Party.

Three-term San Diego Mayor Pete Wilson (R) handily trounced former US President Jerry Brown (D) in the CA US Senate election: which became nationalized by both political parties including campaign stops from President Reagan, who made damn sure that the man, who succeeded him in Sacramento was never going to be back in political office ever again. Brown's overwhelming negatives & unpopularity also caused vicious strong backlash amongst Californians, who just couldn't stomach seeing an unpopular former President in the United States Senate & it didn't help Brown's disastrous presidency in the Chaotic 4 Years (1977-1981) doomed his political career...... for now.

Over in the battle for the Governor's Mansion in an epic battle to succeed outgoing CA Governor Mervyn Dymally (D), who wasn't seeking reelection to a 2nd full 4-year term in 1982 due to federal indictments & investigations into several members of his administration on corruption allegations & the like.

Californians waited for the final outcome due to the closeness of the gubernatorial election between CA State Attorney General George Deukmejian (R) & three-term Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley (D). Nobody knew who won the Governorship for like HRS......

On Wednesday morning, November 3rd, 1982: Deukmejian emerged victorious defeating Bradley by 50,000 votes & less than one percentage point, flipping the Governorship back to the GOP after eight years of Democratic control in Sacramento.

Bradley held a press conference at Los Angeles City Hall on Wednesday afternoon & announced his concession to Deukmejian (having spoke with him over the phone) wishing him & his family well as he leads the Golden State as CA's 36th Governor beginning January 3rd, 1983 when Deukmejian is officially inaugurated.

Deukmejian emerged out of his campaign headquarters in Sacramento very jubilant & excited before a crowd of supporters. He also got congratulatory phone calls from President Reagan, who was super excited about Deukmejian's narrow victory. He also received a congratulatory phone call from Governor Dymally, who pledged a smootj transition from the Dymally administration to the incoming Deukmejian administration, whose priorities were likely going to be strongly different. It was also likely holdover appointees from the Brown & Dymally administrations were planning on updating their resumes & going into the private sector for new jobs because Deukmejian was going to be aggressively cleaning house in all state government agencies.

    Babbitt's Political Future

AZ Governor Bruce Babbitt (D) had just won a massive landslide victory securing his 2nd full 4-year term in the 1982 AZ gubernatorial election. Almost immediately, political analysts began hyping him up as a potential contender for the 1984 Democratic Party presidential nomination.

Babbitt was also mentioned as a potential contender for the United States Senate in 1986 on the likelihood of United States Senator Morris Udall (D-AZ) not seeking reelection to a full 6-year term in 1986 due to allegations of the Junior Senator's health problems flaring up again.

There was also questions about whether Babbitt would seek reelection to a 3rd full 4-year term in 1986. Babbitt didn't respond to questions about his political future, only saying "Let's focus on the upcoming 1983 legislative session and make sure Arizonans see how state government is working!"

The AZ Democratic Party had controlled the Governorship since 1975 under three different Governors: Raul H. Castro (1975-1977), Wesley Bolin (1977-1978) & now Babbitt himself since 1978. Yet the AZ Republican Party still kept control of both chambers of the AZ State Legislature which meant Babbitt would have to work with them if he wanted majority of his main priorities passed by the State Legislature.

The Democratic National Committee took noticed & kept Babbitt as the one to watch in the coming years.

    The Senior Senator from Massachusetts
    Monday, November 7th, 1982

    Hyannis Port, MA

    Senator_Edward_M._Kennedy_and_Mayor_Raymond_L._Flynn.jpg

United States Senator Edward Moore Kennedy (D-MA) had just gotten home from celebrating his landslide victory to a 4th full 6-year term. Kennedy became the lead spokesperson, ala defacto leader of the so-called Loyal Opposition with his blistering attacks against the Reagan administration's foreign policy priorities including his aggressive attacks against Reaganomics, which he relentlessly bashed 24/7 during the 1982 Midterms.

Speculation has been growing whether Kennedy would become a contender for the 1984 Democratic Party presidential nomination. Signs were quite obvious about Senator Kennedy's campaign stops: IA, NH, SC, NV, NM, AZ, MN, WI, MI, IL, PA, OH, WV during the 1982 Midterm elections.

"Gotta make a decision soon about whether I'll be running for the Presidency in 1984. Last time I ran for the Democratic Party presidential nomination four years ago, it didn't go so well because Carter and Edwards sucked up all of the oxygen," Kennedy told Paul Kirk, the Senator's Chief of Staff & diehard loyalist.

Kirk spoke up: "The situation with Joan using that expose about you and her killed the 80 campaign with all of those so-called allegations she ranted on live television. I know both of you are divorcing and how can you manage to avoid those damning allegations from the press if you run for the Presidency in 84?"

Kennedy rambled with non-stop gibberish about something that didn't make sense.

"I don't know Paul. I just don't know nor cannot predict how Joan will do," Kennedy stammered. "That Jackass from California (in reference to President Ronald Reagan) will most likely have his campaign henchmen digging up on my personal life including other garbage by using it in television advertising, etc.,"

Kennedy had good reason to be worried about the Reagan campaign team's penchant of playing dirty for pure political advantage. Four years ago in 1980, Kennedy saw his presidential campaign got destroyed by Carter's Georgia Mafia, who exploited the Senator's chaotic personal life by leaking it to the press & the Georgia Mafia used the Chappaqudick Incident against Kennedy.

Getting a bottle of "cherry" from the wine table, Kennedy poured himself a glass & took sips by staring at the beach from the Kennedy Compound wondering if he can overcome odds stacked against him by launching another presidential campaign again.

He also ate some scaled-down lunch too while watching CBS News, who was highlighting the 1982 Midterms across all 51 states; Kennedy was excited that the Democratic Party gained 26 seats in growing their majority in the US House of Representatives, he was bummed out that GOPers kept control of the United States Senate: Democrats flipped two Senate seats in NM & NJ but the GOP flipped two Senate seats from Democrats in NV & VA, which meant Democrats were staying in the Minority & it meant President Reagan would continue appointing more conservative judges.

Kennedy discussed the 1982 Midterms with Kirk & they wondered how the uncertainty of the IL gubernatorial election between incumbent IL Governor Big Jim Thompson (R) & former United States Senator Adlai Stevenson, III (D-IL) was causing uncertainty not only in IL but the entire country was watching.

Kennedy privately told Kirk his plans on running for the 1984 Democratic Party presidential nomination, but he also made Kirk promise to keep it secret & the official campaign launch will happen sometime in the Summer of 1983.

Former United States Senator Adlai Stevenson, III (D-IL) was inside his hotel room of the Hilton Hotel in Chicago. Holding up for HRS with his family watching the election results on the 6th floor.

Earlier in the evening, Stevenson led during the early part of the night by 6 percentage points over the popular two-term incumbent GOP Governor because of strong turnout from the Northeastern part of the state including Chicago & Cook County.

All of that changed when early returns from the suburbs & downstate caused Thompson to surge ahead past him as the night dragged on & Thompson remained ahead.

"If that ugly bitch at City Hall (reference to Chicago Mayor Jane Byrne (D), whose dislike of the former United States Senator was common knowledge) had gotten off her ass and campaigned harder, we would've won this whole damn thing. And we wouldn't have to be waiting for Downstate to decide the Governorship."

United States Senator Alan J. Dixon (D-IL) tried assuring Stevenson "We did something that nobody thought was possible by making this gubernatorial election very close. We showed all of the experts, analysts and the so-called campaign gurus that we forced Thompson on the defensive as Reaganomics is deeply unpopular."

Stevenson was stressed out as he was planning on heading to the ballroom to address his supporters. Wondering if he had brought up the backlash against Reaganomics earlier in the campaign, if he had been more aggressive by hammering Thompson's record in Springfield.

Illinoisans had to wait in order to find out who was the winner of the IL Executive Mansion.

IL Governor James Robert Thompson, Jr., (R) known as Big Jim, had just gotten back to Springfield after spending nearly 48 HRS in suburban Chicago waiting on the election results inside the Bellvue Hotel Complex.

Thompson & his campaign team had assumed 1982 would be a cakewalk towards a 3rd term in Springfield by at least 20 percentage points according to the polling surveys. They had the typical advantages: incumbency, popularity amongst all Illinoisans, the direction of the state was moving into the right direction, overcoming the Economic Recession of 1982 & everything inside the Land of Lincoln was pushing forward toward a prosperous future.

"Never anticipated having to wait for 48 HRS in finding out if we're staying put in Springfield or not. This waiting game is getting stressful non-stop!" Thompson nervously said while eating breakfast with his wife, IL First Lady Jayne Thompson & their young daughter, Samantha inside the dining room of the Executive Mansion.

Jayne offered a word about the uncertainty: "Things will be fine and I'm sure at the end of the day, you'll emerge victorious when all is said and done."

As Jayne was getting Samantha to go to preschool, Big Jim was heading toward his office to get in touch with the senior staff members of his reelection campaign team. Big Jim had no idea that the uncertainty of the IL gubernatorial election was going to up the ante even further.
