Tanks and other Armoured Vehicles Image thread.

Oh hell yeah. The GI JOE Mauler!

It's about time these historical edutainment channels throe away what's left of the reputation and cover cartoon military vehicles as military history fact!

The topic of the video is actually on the HSTVL or 'High Survivability Test Vehicle Lightweight.'

Reminds me of something else that came up as of late in US Military discussions...

Danish Youtube Channel featuring various high quality videos of military vehicle porn.

Here is a video of Danish Centurion and Leopard 1 Tanks driving around and firing the big guns!

New Variant of the MT-LB in Russian Service.

Can anything cope with such a cage?!?!

Oh my god...The MT-LB is armored less than a damned snowblower, any HEAT warhead that detonates on that cage will still penetrate with ease! D:

I found this bad boy on a forum, a model kit kibash of a Sgt. York turret on an M1 chassis. So yeah...

Reminds me of the ADGS M1 project.

I wonder how many of the old early GI Joe vehicles are feasable? I know some of them are based on real world vehicles.

Case in point. Dragonfly looks like a modified AH-1. The MOBAT is an XM-70 I think. While the Mauler is based off of the REF rapid deployment tank.

Unless I'm wrong this was actually an idea proposed in an issue of ARMOR magazine to fulfill the potential need for a heavily-armored SHORAD-type vehicle that would have the ability to engage both air and land targets at medium range (ADATS) and close range (Bushmaster 30mm autocannons). I don't know if it was ever seriously studied or considered, but it does make for a very interesting and feasible concept. I actually based a "what if" vehicle off of this for my alt-history WW3 fic.

Putting SPAAG turrets on MBT chassis is not just theoretical, Gepard is a case of that (Leo 1 chassis), Loara (T-72) and Marksman too (T-55, Leo 2, many others proposed). Though they all skip out on the anti tank missiles. OTOH they have even heavier, 35mm autocannons that can shred any armored vehicles short of a MBT.

That's basically what Hasbro did: Look at upcoming prototypes and high-end gear, modify them by changing the shape a little in areas and sticking on flashy bits, then put them into production as a GI Joe vehicle/weapon.

All the Joe vehicles, IIRC, are from real-life experiments, prototypes, eventually produced, and canned vehicles.

In some cases. In other cases it was pure batshittery... especially with the Cobraaaaaaa vehicles. I also have to wonder how much of the vehicle design is due to the creators from the comic books like Larry Hama.

There's actually a really cool website that catalogs a lot of the pre-1994 GI Joe vehicles and characters.

Some of the vehicles look like pretty neat analogues. Sticking with just the ground vehicles (sorry Cobra Rattler Ground Attack Jet) you got Vamp series is probably almost as famous as the MOBAT when it comes to the GI Joe Inventory.

The Wolverine!

The Slugger.

The Amphibious Personnel Carrier.

The Mauler Main Battle Tank

One of the neat things when I was uhhh doing research on the GI Joe and Cobra inventories for versus threads was how diverse the vehicles were, including dedicated logistical and engineering vehicles. The GI Joes even have a bridge layer.

My two favorite GI Joe vehicles when I was a kid was the Mudbuster and the Battle Wagon though. Wheels for the win!

The Battle Wagon had an MLRS launcher on the rear top that could fire all of its missiles with the press of a button. The miracles of battery power! 💪

NGL the BTR-40 looks kinda neat. I could see it as a nice civilian off roading vehicle.

Something to buy to think you'll impress your redneck neighbors with, but actually just to impress yourself.

Though if it's still sporting multiple machine guns it might still be more legitimately impressive.

An eighty horsepower engine seems kinda underpowered though...
