The comparison to catholicism in western countries is quite apt - Tatars just aren't very religious. As you can see on the pictures floating around, in everyday life even Tatar women dress just like any European women, no headscarves or anything, and as the last one shows, many even ignore the islamic prohibitions on alcohol and pork. As such, it's easy to see why they aren't fond of "coreligionists" with more typically middle eastern religious customs trying to gain influence in the religious organizations of the country - it wouldn't be good for them if such views were to become more common in their community. And due to how small the number of Tatars is, even relatively small scale immigration, combined with the oil money flood typical for such initiatives, could tip the scales influence wise.

You'd swear these companies would have learned from the Gillette debacle. I only just saw the add and I'm of course in no way Norwegian but fuck me if I didn't feel a spark of irritation at this. Making the very notion that a country's history or culture is unimportant or lesser to some other country's culture, to your own people is grossly insulting.
