Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

Obi-Wan's Waifu from the Clone Wars animation vs. her comic book version ?
Siri Tachi is from a series of books (Jedi Apprentice / Jedi Quest) that give Obi-Wan a truckload of backstory and loads of youthful adventures under Qui-Gon's tutelage. But otherwise: yeah, just as you say.

I think pretty much everyone who read those books really loved them.

Short Children's books where Obi almost becomes a roaming Jedi farmer, then somehow gets to apprentice under Qui-Gon?
One had him somehow landing on a totalitarian planet where the ruler used robots and magical rightminding tech to keep people in line, but Obi defeated it with a magical rock that could concentrate the force?!

Read maybe 2 of those, but I don't recall nearly as much.See rant above!

The fans are right for once in this case.

Honestly after the success of the latest Boba Fett episode, Bryce Dallas Howard is literally the only reasonable choice for any future Star Wars films.

She learned from her old man. The directing style is the same: clear-cut, no-nonsense, and with no egomaniacal frills and nonsense. Also like her dad, she has experience on both sides of the camera, which tends to help you understand what your actors need, direction-wise, at any given moment.

Get a good script, and a director like that, bunch of decent actors, and you're golden. (And contrary to Hollywood wisdom, don't make the budget too big. That just leads to a bloated CGI-fest. Force them to economise. It's good for the final product.)

She is a surprisingly good director and a decently good actress.

She may not be the most LOVED character of the new Jurassic World Movies, but she is a decnt actress.
She did learn from her father, and he managed to save Solo somewhat apperently.

I still want what's her face who did Wonder Woman to do the Rogue Squadron movie she talked about/made the teaser for.

Her dad was a F-4 pilot lost over Vietnam, and she has fighter pilot blood/life in her; that is a very good background for doing Rogue Squadron justice.

Patty Jenkins.

Best I can say for this show is that it captures the Star Wars "look" better than the sequels, where character designers seemed to be actively going out of their way to throw in unappealing blobs. Even then there are bizarre exceptions like the Cyborg gang's speeders, why are they so clean? You're on Tatooine! Two episodes left (after this diversion to Mando who was hanging out on a Halo Ring of all places?) and I'm waiting for the writers to hit us with their best shot. Haven't seen Mando, maybe that'd make it click, but probably not.

I NEVER WANTED NO EPISODE VII, I NEVER WANTED MOST OF THE EU, BOTH ORIGINAL AND NEW, I THOUGHT THAT EP.1 WAS CHILDISH AND SILLY, I WANTED THRAWN, DAMN IT, EVERYTHING FROM tCoPL to the Vong War could just go burn in hell, the empire and the rebels were actually smart in Timothy Zahn's stiff, it was actually good!!!

See this is why I have a hard time taking The Fandom Menace's narrative seriously. The last thing "the fans" were ever united on was The empire strikes back. The fans have been at war with each other from Return of The Jedi on.

That tire fire is still going?

you'd think it'd have died after DVD's 400th prediction was beyond wrong but nope it's still going. They are still demanding that Disney groval to their demands like a salem witch mob. even if Disney never mentions the ST again (Happy days in my opinion if that is the case.) Disney will never publicly acknowledge the Fandom Menace let alone apologize to them. Nor should they.

As far as official announcements go, it's still on the slate, just delayed from the original stated date of starting production in 2022. Considering she's known to already be contracted for a third Wonder Woman movie in 2022, multiple TV projects for Netflix, and still producing (but not directing) a Cleopatra movie starring Gal Gadot, the delay isn't even suspicious.

if this was happening at another studio, id agree with you.
but lucas film doesn't get the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Yeah, why apologize to paying customers for making shit products, I mean it should be a good business practice.
The last thing I paid Disney money for was Rogue One.
They are not getting anything more from me in the foreseeable future.
They are a multi billion dollar industry.
Why should they apologize to the ones they made mad and not focus just in making better products.
Which they are....

I agree that there are always unreasonable fans, and you can never cater to everyone.

That said, there are two main ways to approach fans. There's "we are here to make stuff you like and we love your feedback ever if we can't always cater to all wishes". And then there's "we make stuff you should consume, and if you don't like it you're a racist, sexist, toxic sub-human scumbag and we'll literally call on our twitter mob to bully you into silence".

Disney took the latter approach. Most of the really pissed-off fans that literally can't be pleased aymore only exist because they were aggressively shoved into a corner.

For an example of the former approach: Sonic the Hedgehog. That first character design was really, really bad. They got called out on it, they recognised the fan criticism, the recognised that it was legitimate, and they literally spent a shit-ton of money fixing the problem. The result was one of the very few films ever based on a video game that's actually good. It got universal fan acclaim, and it made a nice profit, even after they spent the extra cash.

I know which style of response I admire, and it's not the Disney way.
