So what are you watching?

Youtube tossed this one my way:

It's set shortly after the Japanese surrendered in RL with just one condition: Emperor Hirohito shall not be harmed.

@Husky Khan

Do you...not like yourself?

I kept hearing how bad Bloodsport IV was and I like watching stuff on background. And I LOVED the original Bloodsport which is one of the greatest films of all time so... yeah. I had to find out for myself how bad it is and sadly it's an... it's so bad it's bad type of movie. As opposed to it's so bad it's Deathwish III, one of the other greatest films of all time.

There's no excuse for Shark Exorcist though. That was just me hearing about the filmmaker Donald Farmer being a perv and thinking... Lemme search his name and see what's free to stream (no pun intended). It wasn't even fun in an ironic car accident sort of way. But unlike other bad films, it wasn't just so easy to turn it off. I didn't want to see... but I had to... and... I was not the same afterwards...

That's actually a pretty solid movie in my opinion. The 'inspired by true events' tagline is doing the usual job of covering-up a mountain of stuff pulled out of Hollywood's rectum and perhaps the most cliche, eye-rolling love-story to ever be put to film...But it's good at establishing an atmosphere around the US occupation and MacArthur, and it does a surprisingly good job of being accurate to MacArthur's memoirs for the meeting with the Emperor (whether they're accurate or not). So that's something.

My own adventuring sent me to watch Lone Wolf McQuade.
Which is...A film. A Chuck Norris action film even. An 80s Chuck Norris action film, chock full of cliches, 'splosions, and automatic gunfire. It's basically checking all the boxes on the fun-formula checklist and yet...It doesn't quite achieve the heights it should based on the potential and that is noticeable enough to drag down the enjoyment a little? It's still a fun time and worth watching, but...Iunnow. Hard-to-describe limit to it that later 80s or Norris flicks surpassed that this one didn't?

I saw that movie recently. It was pretty ho-hum. All I can remember really is the beginning bit, and then the bit where the heroes lead those Federal Agents to the Airfield or whatever and the two Feds try and take like fifty bad guys under arrest and get blown away.

Oh and the final battle with Chakotay and Chuck Norris taking on David Carradine and his gang. It's really kinda sad that I saw the movie maybe a few months ago and can barely remember anything about it. I'm guessing it's just not as good or entertaining as other iconic 80's action movies which is probably why a lot of folks put Chuck Norris kind of a level below the iconic action stars like Stallone and Schwarzengger and Van Damme.

I received the 20th anniversary box set of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies with both extended and theatrical releases for Christmas from my now The Wife (tm) and since she had not watched the movies in their entirety not having read the books we're watching the theatricals on Saturday nights in order of release.

I dunno.... just watching the Extended Editions might be recommended if you can bear the length. I don't think the pacing suffers too much from the added bajillion scenes. Might actually flesh out plot points better that might've been skimmed over in the Theatrical edition.

But I'm sure either/or would work.

I remember trying to introduce new people to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and... the latter almost gets far better reception then the former. And that's regardless of starting chronological with the Prequel Trilogy or in order of the release date with the Original Trilogy I feel.

Figured if she liked the theatricals we'd hit the extendeds next time around when we watch them together. I used to have the extended on DVD until my nephew borrowed them (to never return them) so I'm familiar with the extended editions myself and I thought it might be a lot for someone who wasn't already a fan.

Kids have us watching Chuck, the best bumbling spy around.

Chuck is good but the last season was meh. You can tell that they didn't know where to go after it came back from cancelation. But overall it is one of the better normal guy becomes a spy shows. Especially over other contemporaries like Jake 2.0.

I just started Outlander with the girlfriend but it is surprisingly decent so far for a drama romance. Besides that I am watching the new Dirty Jobs.

Started Yellowjackets after Book of Boba Fett 1 to 5 (3 episode is the shittiest so far and probably because directed by Robert Rodriguez with too much lazy writing). Boba is goood 4 out of 5, even though episode 5 is mostly about another character.

Sidenote : might be an overrated show but can't tell so far since I am 11:41 minutes in. Aesthetically it gives me TRUE DETECTIVE first season.

Watching Archive 81 on Neflix right now. Super engrossing psychological/suspenseful horror type of television series. I love horror in general, especially Psychological Horror but I've always been hesitant on watching television series before they finished in case they don't, plus other shitty season ending cliffhangers.

But I took the risk for this show and now that I ALMOST finished it, I have to say unless the ending is a stinker, I found this show deeply engrossing. The basic premise is a businessman hires a film restoration specialist to go to this secluded residence to digitize a series of damaged tapes pertaining to a tragic apartment fire to shed light on the details of said fire on behalf of the victims. The episodes are two fold, dealing with a storyline taking place in the present day, and another one dealing with the events that took place within the tapes, around the year 1994.

Super interesting and engrossing story. Really drew me in. And kept me watching. The story progresses naturally with strong characters (and character moments) and plot points and without any cheap jump scares or mindless cliffhangers. It really builds up the mystery and suspense and horror gradually and draws you into the series. But there are genuine scares and twists as well. It's definitely not boring or plodding either.

Highly recommend it.

And going in 'blind' is preferable I would think. I just saw the trailer, it reveals a bit too much. SMH.
