So apparently some Army bases are getting renamed

I know @Bacle and @Zachowon fought over this dozens of times. What do the rest of you thing?

Generally I'm against renaming things, and just sticking with tradition it seems like it might trip up soldiers who are used to the old name, and it's a very cheap move. If they wanted to send a message they could put their money where their mouth is and close down Bragg for good and open a new base elsewhere with a new name.

Yeah closes a base the size of Fort Bragg would not be easy and cost more money to build a new base the same size woth the same infrastructure.

I know that's why I said put your money where your mouth is. Also we use the most money out of all nations on our military so we could afford it if we wanted it.

I think the old names should stay. I see them as being named after warriors worthy of being remembered, not as honoring the cause they fought for.

I mean, the thing about it for me.....is why would you want to remember Bragg? Like, even if we ignore the whole morality of fighting for the Confederacy and that whole debate, dude was a shitty general. I wouldn't want to name a US army base Fort Burnside or Fort Fredendall.

I have to admit to not being familiar with Bragg or his exploits.

I'm curious about the names they are proposing to replacing them with, though. I suppose it never occurred to these woke-tards to name any after Native leaders like Crazy Horse. :sneaky:

They didn't bother to name it after people from those estates woth one exception and that is Hood.
Murphy would have been better

I'm of two minds on it personally, and the names they've selected for some of them are pretty good (Rucker being renamed for a pilot who was awarded the MoH in Korea,, for example; Eisenhower having a base named after him). A couple of them are just pandering though. Especially when you have names like Pershing, Marshall, or if you really want a famous black officer, how about Fort Benjamin Davis (commander of the Tuskegee Airmen)?

And "Fort Liberty" vs "Fort Bragg" I don't mind -Braxton Bragg was a fucking idiot, as were most of the Confederate officers. About the only one I'm iffy on is Lee, given that he *was* an excellent commander, and the political situation at the time was a little different so far as the U.S. went (it's like condemning a Spanish officer if there was a civil war in the EU -Spaniard first, not a European first).

Anyway, we shall see.

I prefer it if they chose names based on something like a nearby town, landmark, or geographic feature that's not named after any one particular person.

Here is showing the supposed names, things could still change but here they are.
I personally would have preferred the proposed base names go towards being named after Union agents/sympathizers who fought the Confederates in their own backyard to truly cast away the legacy of the CSA associated with those names.

However, the proposed names aren't really anything I find objectionable.

Personally I would have tried to make sure one of the bases was renamed for Sherman and one for Tubman, just for maximum neo-Confederate butthurt.

Sherman yes Tubman no.
Again, every single one being named after a MoH with a few exceptions. Lee is being named after two PoCs that do not have a MoH. One is being named after Ike and then Liberty.
The rest are after MoH recipients

Eh, the Army doesn't do that because it is to honor people generally.
Look at how AF bases are named

They named a Fort Gregg-Adams... This should empower women (and Men) in the service who wants to keep their maiden name.

For the first time in my life I don't completely hate America.

I mean that none of the pandering ones are of Natives. Kind of like the $20 bill thing, where everyone fell over themselves to put Harriet Tubman on there rather than a Native (which would have been the most historically ironic). The woke crowd is obsessed with black people, basically, is what I'm saying.
