Being the ship was named Taipei, the commander who seized it perhaps thought it's a ROC ship and thus a valid target, but the higher ups realised it is not and they just pissed of their biggest trade partner.
Hm, if every nation gets pissed enough at China to embargo them, would chinese ships be considered fair game?

I feel like you could unironically set sail with the USS Constitution and still do pretty well as a pirate if that glorious naval engagement off the coast of Venezuela is any indication.
All that needs for that to happen is for America to stop protecting chinese shipping.

No, the rest of the world will bitch that the US owes protecting their ships to them, that is the problem with doing something for so long, people start feeling entitled to it.

No because the UK always ensured it benefited from it, most notably the British did not protect their rivals, The US protected everyone’s trade, for the sake of a global order.

The world recieved free protection for global shipping for 30 years.
For 30 years the americans took care of any idiot who threatened any international trade, for 30 years they sent their children to die in hellholes spent their money with out getting anything in return. That was 30 years to build up your economy, build your nation and get your shit in gear with out any real requirements in return. That is a fantastic deal, that people squandered the sacerfice of the american people in blood and treasure isnt our fault.
