I'm not ATP, but... guy was a dumbass, from what little I know about him. He was politically adept, but nearly lost Stalingrad. And before then, every time he faced a competent German general, he lost the battle. Mostly because he absolutely refused to account for... well, the enemy. While he was good at technical side of things - managing his own troops - he'd act as if the enemy was just going to bend over and accept the kick. So every time he ran across a competent opponent (von Paulus, Model) he received a beating, unless literally everything was stacked in his favor beforehand (as at Stalingrad).
