Politicians and Government Cringe Thread

Don’t disagree, per se, but honestly, this is why I feel that another sixty(-ish) to eighty(-ish) years for everything to come crashing down is rather long.

Without this, it may have taken longer, but the hubristic accelerationism of our current set of elites leads me to believe things will become untenable about mid-century, rather than gradually crumbling as the twenty-first century wraps up.
I really do think that the "time of troubles" that we're falling into is going to occupy the rest of this century. These things have no easy solutions, and entrenched elites always have more staying power than you think.

Usually, perhaps, though the unique “unworthiness” of a current elite that’d make most Optimates shake their heads in disgust means the coming “crisis period” will be no tamer than it was before.

Quite possibly a whole lot worse, in fact, given the unique mix of ungodly weapons, ideological fervor, and sheer, global scale at which the kind of horrors you foresee will take place.

In the end Bob Heinlein was right. And we are getting our Terran Federation/Republic.

I just wonder when the global veterans revolt will happen.

Or at least if what you guys think will happen will play out.

Things seem to be heading in that direction. Funny thing is, I thought it would take longer, that we'd only see the resurgence of MAGA come '28. But the Democrats (and their RINO friends!) seem dead-set on burning everything down.

Which makes my cynical self suspect that it might be just intentional. A ruined country to pass off to their enemy, a poisoned chalice. It's psychopathic and perverse, but then -- that's exactly what the establishment has become, by this point.

If Trump runs in 2024 he's going to win. He will Fix the Economy. Styxhaven666 said it best. I don't think anyone was prepared for how fast he did it the first time. And his reforms will likely do it again just as fast, if not faster. The thing that concerns me is the National deficit. Christ, 30 Trillion dollars!? We need to address that, pronto.

The first time around, the economy was about ready to rebound, in the wake of the 2007/2008 disaster. Trump stopped doing the idiotic things Obama had been doing, and did smart things instead. Of course that worked.

I think that given that state of things now, a recovery like that will not be possible in the period 2024-2028. The hardest hits are still to come at present, so I tentatively think thst it won't be until the early 2030s that a recovery is going to occur.

Naturally, I would very much like to be 100% dead wrong about this. If Trmp or DeSantis or fucking Santa Claus kicks Biden out of the White House in '24 and turns things around, I'll be jumping for joy.

One element, all by itself, would be a massive improvement to the economy, and that's going full 'Drill baby, drill!'

That doesn't 'just' drop the price of gas for consumers at the pump, that drops the price of electricity, and shipping. Between those two, it results in cost reductions across the board.

Just that could turn this economic slump around.

The GOP establishment (RINOs and controlled opposition that they are) seem to be trying maintain control over the party by simply not allowing their competition within the party to run for office. What do you want to bet that they'll come up with some way to disqualify Trump too, if he decides to try and run again?

I don't think that will work, Rinos are getting purged left and right this summer.

Perhaps not; but I doubt they'll just meekly accept defeat. They might even try to destroy the party on the way out, if it looks like they're about to lose control of it entirely.

Their going with wreaking things on the way out, thing is there is so much growing and bubbling anger that you really can't stop a populist movement from forming. The discontent cant be papered over any more, and the paradime of the rest of the century has been set.
