Politicians and Government Cringe Thread

Meanwhile in the European Union during a Council on the Future of Europe.

INTERPRET!!!

Obviously, I decided on “Ha-ha”, but… what’s the larger context here, exactly? I know it’s at an EU council meeting, and am puzzled as to what silly dancing has to do with anything, but that doesn’t tell me much about who brought the dancers in or why. 😕
Those arent dancers! Those ar-....You know what?...the below video will explain everything...

Funny, but seriously, who let them into the meeting hall and why?

It's the end of something called the Conference on the Future of Europe and to send it off the European Parliament apparently invited a French Interpretative Dance Group called 'Dance L'Europe' to do their POWERFUL choreographic performance.

… Okay, well, thanks for the tip-off, then.

I know you’re being facetious here, but really, their little dance routine just seems nonsensical and irrelevant to the proceedings, if they’re trying to sway legislators’ votes or something. Sadly, some people just think the way, I guess.

According to the link it's meant to symbolize the french presidency of the EU... @Arlos your thoughts? :p

They say that, but unless there’s some sort of French convention I’m missing, I fail to see political symbolism of any kind here?

Plus, even if there is something to it, I’m still not sure what practical use it has at a political summit, with more nations than just France in attendance.

At this point we more or less expect this stuff from france.

Their basically the florida of europe.

She also had law enforcement stand down during the BLM riots, so there's that.

Honestly, though, what else can we expect from politicians, if not grifting and self-serving hypocrisy? Sure, there may come a point where regular people have finally had enough, but until then, well...

I wouldn't get too attached to lightfoot.

My money is that someday the radicals she supports today will murder her.

I really do understand your title of 'sad monarchist.' Your nation has many grand accomplishments in its history, but I'm hard pressed to think of any way they've distinguished themselves since WWII. Most of the west has been losing its spirit, but France seems particularly hard hit.
I’d say my country has been losing spirit since the revolution, too much killing following it, even WW1 was more of a sursaut that broke the back of my nation in a way I am more and more thinking was definitive, we’re already dead, now we’re just waiting to rot into dust, as do all things.
We’ll, it’s not really the thread for this I think.

France has survived worse (namely England. "Waterloo and Agincourt, doo dah, doo dah."). She'll be fine.
