Politicians and Government Cringe Thread

Most artificial sweetaners are also alcohols, they don't get you drunk, but they do damage your liver in the same way as any other alcohol, so you need to watch your consumption of those if you are also drinking liquor.

Oklahoma Democratic Congressional Candidate Abby Broyles had a weekend sleepover with Middle School girls arranged through a Mother whom she was friends with.

Despite the presence of wine and sleeping medication, it turned out the weekend sleepover went poorly, as Abby got drunk and according to her, suffered hallucinations which she was unaware of until she woke up vomiting into a hamper. Apparently during this hallucinatory period, she berated several of the girls, one of them for having acne and another one for being Hispanic.

(check out the skeptical replies alleging she's a fake)

For her part, the rich and successful Abby Broyles initially denied she was ever at the party, then stating she had an adverse reaction and then said she was very sorry from the bottom of her heart.

Since then she has also stated “The things I’m accused to have said are not who I am. They’re not a reflection of my beliefs at all. It’s clear this media smear campaign is politically backed, and I won’t stop fighting for Oklahomans," and that she will not withdraw from the race.

Hmm, why do I get the feeling she won't be cancelled to Hell by her base for partisan reasons?

They also damage your optic nerves.

Here's what a doctor has to do to keep somone from going blind after they drank bad moonshine: hook them up to an IV of medical vodka and keep them shit-faced drunk while they wait and watch.

That doesn't always work because our livers have enzymes which preferentially metabolize ethanol.

EDIT: There's a reason why I will not accept any painkiller except for asprin or morphine. The latter is not happening unless I'm a patient who needs be in an OR and I don't use asprin for anything but to make a migrane headache slightly less miserable.

I actually have some bad memories about adult drinking when I was a kid, my babysitter got drunk, started making a ruckus and tried to propose me sex so I wouldn’t tell on her, ended up locking her up in a room after luring her in.
As a results, I do think adults should have some sense of responsibility when drinking in front of children, it can get pretty unpleasant for a kid.

That sounds pretty French to me for some reason. I dunno why.... and it's not just the wine stereotype.

Posting as a screenshot because this tweet from the Ukrainian government will definitely be deleted:

Of course she whines about how dare people shove her nose into the vomit she made. Her side doesn't hesistate in lording past mistakes over their enemy's head, so why shouldn't we? They want to fight without rules, they don't get to squeal how we need to stay civil and polite.

Except the American intelligence community's job depends on them knowing what's going on in the world, so they should damn well know better than some shmucks of no consequence.
Eh, you would be surprised. We are generally good at our jobs and use analytic reasoning. Just because we dont know ,uch about Chernoyble doesnt surprise me.

Again, there is plenty we dont know and have our own specalties in, but they are not a "We know eerything: kinda thing

That's... not exactly reassuring.

I know pretty much everyone is ignorant about 99.99 percent of things, but I'd think that an intelligence person would know their history, geography, and geopolitics far better than the average American. National security depends on them having an IQ above room temperature, doesn't it?
