That is probably one of the most esteemed positions a person can ever hold in their lifetimes, yet I have a feeling the current crop would be far too proud to take up such an office.Indeed. A "council of elders" is literally what a Senate is. And that is what it should be. Indeed, the idea here should almost be for such elder statesmen to serve as experienced advisors, who are asked for their insights on complicated topics; and possibly offer concrete suggestions on how to turn proposals into sound laws.
