Politicians and Government Cringe Thread

I trust you know where the launch button is?
the people controlling the streaming sites are leftist yeah, and many of the more.. vocal idiots are left leaning currently, but once you get to the crowd that just wants to be left alone in anime they're to the right generally at this point from personal experience, at least for those who still go for fansubs to avoid politicized translations

when you tell people my way or the highway you end up getting a pretty full highway.

In my experience, most anime fans are/were apolitical. Now they're starting to trend towards reactively anti-leftist.

There's certainly a sizeable quantity of leftists, but there aren't actually that many of them, they're just really loud.
And my experience has been to see the fandom slowly get taken over by leftist/feminists. All the way back in 2011 a friend of mine was cosplaying as Yoko from Gurren Lagann and was getting shamed for it because there was this movement against sexy cosplays at cons starting back then. I was starting to hear stories from other cons about cosplayers being forced to go change or risk getting kicked out of cons and saw an example of that myself at this same con. Every year at the cons I've gone to I saw more and more regressive left shit about "diversity and inclusion." It's kind of like how every year more and more furries would show up. :cautious: It's gotten to the point that I'm pretty well done with them.

And of course the localization companies are full of leftists now, so there's all kinds of shit with them changing the scripts for political reasons. You can't even trust subs anymore because so many fan groups that make so-called "fan-subs" are just stealing them from the localizers.

yeah same thing with the boyscouts, with schools with pretty much everything, communists have to make fucking everything about them. They have this toxic narcism and envy that makes them ruin everything around them, and its only after society is in ruins after the gulages the mass graves and the deaths of millions that people are finally willing to tell these spoiled children to fuck off.

Yes, at a convention, where activists can seek to take institutional control of an organization and thus push their crap. There's a power structure to be had there, which means the leftists will aggressively be drawn to it.

How about the much larger number of fans who never go to things like cons in the first place? Or even the people who do, but just don't want to get involved in all of that mess when it crops up?

Rep Biggs may be the beginning of the Weeb Caucus.

On overly-serious slightly-humorous note related to this, and something I know @S'task has mentioned a time or two at length, the US has basically had the functional equivalent of a Weeb Caucus, and certainly a weeb demographic in the population, for basically its entire existence. And that just got better (worse? :p) when steamships and Admiral Perry made trade & travel back and forth more practical. So, really, Gosar's silliness and anime references on the floor of Congress is just carrying-on the fine American tradition of latching onto Japanese products and cultural associations--like the big cherry blossom festival DC does thanks to Japan's gifting of those back in the day.

On more-humorous note, I now wish to know which character from a girls-with-guns series Lauren Boebert would cosplay as. If she has bad taste, nobody should vote for her regardless of how much they approve of her political opinions.

 You can claim that they somehow represent the minority, but that matters fuck-all when they not only have all the organized fan stuff, but are also effectively acting like gatekeepers thanks to their control of localization.

Matters to what?

I'm saying there's nothing to your argument. You claim can make claims about fan demographics all you want, but it doesn't matter in the end because of who is running all the stuff fans go to irl, and the stuff they buy. Probably the only way around that would be if these companies in Japan do their own subtitles so fans can import from them directly. Meanwhile fans here have nothing fun to go to because the cons are all overrun by leftists.

All true, and I agree that there has been Japanese influence in America from pretty early on (they are good farmers, and we had a lot of fertile frontier to develop or gold to mine.

Plus the possible Buhhdist monks who shipwrecked on the coast and ended up marrying/interterbreeding with the ancestors of the Zuni tribes.

She could do decently was as, off the top of my head:

Roberta the Maid from Black Lagoon, with her knowledge of guns and general attitude. No one would joke much about her after that.

Ooyodo for Kantia Collection, though I doubt she'd be ok with a microskirt.

Mari from Rebuild of Eva, but doubt she'd be a fan of Eva.

It seems to me to be "my personal experience is different from yours, therefore you are wrong". Which is fair enough; but with both myself and Captain X basically arguing the same thing in response, I'm not seeing any point to continuing this conversation. There's just no common ground here.

I once dressed as Kirika from Noir for Halloween. I'm nearly six feet tall and all I had to do to look like that small underage teenage girl was wear a Wu-Tang clan apron, a T-shirt, a dark blue skirt, some pink shoes, and get a haircut.

I most definitely did not include her Beretta Md. 1934 as part of the costume even though I had access to one because alcohol and firearms do not mix.

Which brings up a depressing point; there are no consequences for lying. Not to the American people, not to congress; we just accept now that people lie as a matter of course.
I mean, who would you have enforce penalties for dishonesty? The FBI? Congressional committees? Preferential enforcement of existing laws is what ails the US on every level from politics to the freaking health code.
