I dont blame the girl here. That's a clear trade up, and the obvious choice to make. First guy makes her quite rationally scared of guys, cause he's nutso, so she ditches him for a guy she knows is incapable of doing anything threatening. Better a lover than a psycho, basically.
I honestly don't care if cheating happened. At some point, if the person you are with is that crazy, the relationship is over, is just not safe to tell them.

Maybe he was crazy and abusive, or it could be that the guy was perfectly well adjusted before all this, and this drama was what set him over the edge for all I know. We ain’t exactly getting his side of the story at this point.
What I do know is that Hunter decided to play with fire by mocking the guy about it and is now acting shocked that something bad happened.

Are there any sources actually collaborated this Hunter guy was using her as a human shield? If the ex wanted to kill Hunter Avallone for mocking him online or taking away the girlfriend he allegedly was in an abusive relationship with for over a decade, I think if I was in that situation one of my first retarded instincts would be to interpose myself between the two since the Ex is supposedly targeting the new boyfriend or whatever. I mean I guess that's technically still human shielding and Hunter was wimpy enough to not keep her out of the way but I dunno... it could've all happened pretty fast. 🤷♀️
And that he didn't decide to shoot a place up, which, in my mind at least, seems like a huge improvement.

We haven't heard that, but that doesn't mean he's done the same or worse.
We're pretty sure Hunter's a grifter, based on his Youtube history. Grifters are basically legal con artists. How bad a con artist is he? Con artists have destroyed peoples lives before, quite a few at times.
Frankly, If I ended up with a girl, I wouldn't spend any time taunting the ex. That shows something about Hunter, what kind of guy he is.
Hunter might not be that terrible. But, he might be.

Yeah, it likely does. People who do things like this are rare, and also notable. On top of that, a great deal of his life is online. If he had randomly gone on a shooting spree, we'd know. His name being 'Hunter' would make it even more obvious.
If he hadn't shot up the place, then yes, I'd have sympathy for him. But given that he did shoot up the place, yeah, Hunter Avalone may be a bitch, but better a bitch than a psycho.
