and another county has a sheriff saying he will deputize over a thousand citizens to resist any attempt by state or Federal authorities to enforce these laws.

The real fun would be a sheriff who deputizes every citizen adult without a criminal record or restraining order that wants to be deputized.

Being "law enforcement" gets you around all kinds of gun laws. You get, by federal law, to concealed carry everywhere and you get to avoid pretty much all non NFA related state and federal firearms laws.

Except that the current President is in favor of this Red Flag nonsense. He literally said "confiscate first, due process second." He also banned bump stocks by fiat. So I'm thinking he isn't real big on the Second Amendment. ;)

If anything, the Fed will probably step in on the side of the Virginia government just to "maintain order." I hate to be negative, but I have a feeling this will be the case.

If he does there’s going to be a lot of disappointment and angry Republicans and Independents out there....

Trump is in no way a man who is particular into the whole issue of gun ownership in the first place. It's not particularly high on his priorities list, as best I've been able to see.

He's incredibly perceptive regarding hot-button issues though. If this thing in Virginia turns serious, expect him to be very careful in how he reacts to it. He knows what his voter base is like, and this becomes an A-list rather than C-list issue, he'll think through what he'll do much more substantially.
