New rules!

So, I originally intended to post this in another thread, that has since been locked to avoid dissent:

We have been asked not to make new threads about the election while the current election topics remain closed

Yes we have, and people should hopefully be engaged enough to know that. On the other hand, that information wasn't included in a site banner, there is no thread created in politics to talk about or explain that ruling, it's not mentioned in the rules thread or even been added to the thread talking about the closure of the politics section. Rather, as best as I can tell this new "rule" is only mentioned briefly in passing in a separate thread in an entirely unrelated forum of the site.

Now, obviously the new management are entirely within their rights to be as arbitrary as they'd like, and I'll even go so far as to admit I was one of the people to report this post. I knew it was breaking new "rules" and will always follow such to the best of my ability. Regardless of how arbitrary or poorly communicated they are. If the new management plan to hide "trap" rules in unconnected threads than I shall make sure to scour thoroughly to ensure the boot isn't on my neck.

I repost it here as a PSA to those who might have somehow missed this new rule.

I agree with you here, that's why I posted to inform the user. I had assumed they didn't see the rule/request/whatever you want to call it.

I think it was just something that has been looked over during the transition.

Admins/mods: you definitely should make a site wide banner.

Randomboy is nothing but a troll, and I don't even like him, but he does not deserve a subforum ban for that. This rule is not widespread or properly disseminated.

I'd ask that you reconsider his subforum ban, and let him earn it on his own, should he choose to do so, by knowingly violating properly announced rules. It's just not fair to hit him over a rule he probably didn't know about.

I will admit to naivety here in that I actually expected keeping those threads locked would be enough. Once I figure out how to do a banner I'll do one for the Politics forum to remind people.

The transition is probably just confusing people.

You could always pin a rules thred to the top of the politics forum. List what is and is not permitted to be talked about.
