NATO Military News

Sorry for the OT - this is supposed to be about NATO and not the Polish political cesspool.
PiS has alienated the other parties and nobody will join them in a coalition.
True that PiS got the most votes, 7,5M, but that is less than in 2019 - 8M. Also, PiS stewardship managed to boost turnout to 74%, up from the usual 60-65%, with all those new voters going to the other parties.
I do not expect anybody to accept a coalition with PiS - suicide. Firstly, PiS has a track record of destroying coalition members, secondly - more importantly - that party's voters would revolt.

BTW - I hate the term "democratic opposition", as it implies that those not endorsed by the Gazeta Wyborcza (think Guardian, NYT or similar rag) newspaper and TVN television station are "not democratic". Old and proven Bolshevik methods ...

That's why I used quotation marks, because it's fiction. If anything, it is the "democratic" opposition that is undemocratic.

The first disadvantage is not, but in this case we are in a strange situation so a small miracle may occur.

The second, now they may be very much against it, but give a few weeks of this circus and the will of the people, as always fickle will change in favor of, okay, fuck even with PiS but as long as there is some permanent government!

Actually, one combines with the other, depending on what happens. The outcome of what comes out of this circus will produce certain effects within the broader Nato.

As there will be a Law and Justice government, the army expansion program, necessary though extremely difficult, will continue, though there will be obvious stretching of the facts in places.

As there will be an Opposition government, the army expansion program will at best be "made more realistic" (that is, except for the really necessary things, everything else will be ignored despite the fact that it should not within the framework of, "lack of money" which is an overgeneralized feature of DT governments. Well, unless industry and the army stand up to it and with help comes the US which will use all the pressure to stop it).
At worst we will have, to spite mommy I will frostbite my ears. It was bad, it will get worse. Why, because theirs and not ours,

In the first case, we will have an army that will be a suitable political tool and the foundation for a serious military force in the event of W.
In the second and third, a joke that as long as there is peace it works but the moment there is a W, everyone will cry that someone came up with this debilitating idea.

@Batrix2070 @Buba I feel sorry for Poland's fate just as I did with what happened with Artsakh (now again nagorno-karabakh with an humiliating self defeat publicized on Twitter). Now I might have a vision different that you guys, but PiS looked what I would vote in Italy and best for a country. To me, PiS does represent an actual and proper popular sovereignty party, at least compared to what the ones I actually have in Brazil,Portugal, Spain and Italy.
Let cross our fingers and that Batrix2070 is right about elections in spring and that they don't pull a last minute move of self-electing themselves without actual elections as it happens in Iberia and Italy.

Sorry, missed that :)

Here I simply do not believe the PiS delivering all that military hardware or raising those units ...

I believe the English equivalent of that Polish idiom is "cut off nose to spite face".

That's their propaganda at work - they always do the really important things that the EU demands of them*, they simply first scream "no!" first ... they throw tantrums and "misbehave" over irrelevant stuff.

* it was the other twin, a PiS co-founder, who, as President, signed the Lisbon Treaty for Poland.

Must be reàlly effective. Though I mentioned thàt compàred to whàt I hàve. They still sound better thàn Tusk unless you give more reàsons to believe they àre the other side of the coin.

Romania cleared to make a $2.5 billion purchase of 54 M1A2 SEPv3 Main Battle Tanks.

And it's not just the 54 tanks but also other support vehicles, equipment and munitions.

Breaking Defense said:
The agreement would cover the 54 tanks, as well as four M88A2 HERCULES Combat Recovery Vehicles, four M1110 Joint Assault Bridges and a whole host of other support equipment — including 5,940 120mm M1147 High Explosive, Multipurpose, Tracer (HEMP-T) cartridges and 4,230 120mm M1002 Target Practice Multipurpose, Tracer (TPMP-T) cartridges.

General Dynamics Land Systems is the prime contractor, although more than a dozen other firms are listed on the DSCA announcement.

Makes me feel safe and sheltered, as described in this song&dance number selling an air-to-air missile (no, this is NOT a condom commercial):

NATO is apparently hosted a gaming event in some country called Poland in a city with a really badass named called WARSAW.

Various popular streamers and NATO personnel are mingling with the local gamers playing games like Among Us, Party Animals and Street Fighter etc.

Yes,all our saws are used for war, hence why Warsaw name.
/City was once village created by Warszyc family, hence Warszawa/

Good, but if Democrats decide to gave us for nothing to Moscov again, all those gamers,at least from Poland, would end on Siberia.

Finland will lead it's first NATO military exercise since it became a member The Freezing Winds 23 Exercises will involve four thousand troops, around thirty ships and over a dozen aircraft with troops from Finland, America, Germany, Poland, France and the Netherlands taking part. It'll be conducted in the Gulf of Finland and Finnish Archipelago from November 20th to December 1st.

Imagine retaking Karelia and liberating St. Petersburg with only four thousand troops, thirty boats and sixteen planes!
Whipping up that force into a Horde Threatening Our Nation's Existence does not pose a problem for propagandists anywhere :)
BTW - suchlike are called "PR people" today?

HMS Somerset, a Type 23 Destroyer, is the first Royal Navy vessel to be equipped with the antiship Naval Strike Missile in Norway.

Tangentially related, the Romanians are beginning to acquire the first ex-Royal Navy Minehunters for their own Black Seas Navy.

The ex-HMS Blyth, a Sandown-class Minehunter is now the *takes a deep breath* ROS Sublocotenent Ion Ghiculescu!!!

Finland won a sniper competition...

NATO said:
The European Best Sniper Team Competition pits 45 teams of sharpshooters from many NATO Allies and partners against each other for seven days of grueling and stressful tests of skill.

Somehow the Finnish newcomers came out on top. Who knew the Finns were such good snipers?

NATO said:
The seven-day 2023 European Best Sniper Competition had pitted 45 sniper teams against each other in a series of challenges designed to test not just their accuracy, but their physical stamina, camouflage skills and their ability to think critically while on the move.

One such scenario, dubbed “1917”, simulated the rigours of the First World War by making the snipers crawl under barbed wire and fight through trenches clogged with military-grade tear gas. Another, “Mogadishu”, made snipers take long-distance shots from the bobbing deck of a Lakota scout helicopter before sprinting towards a simulated helicopter crash, where they needed to engage a series of targets at unknown distances.

It's like the Olympics of Snipering... Apparently the Greeks, Finns and Americans were leading for much of the competition but the Finns pulled ahead for the glorious victory.

No Soviets were harmed during the competition AFAIK.
