    July 19th, 1969: Gloria Diaz of the Philippines was crowned as the 18th Miss Universe at the Miami Beach Auditorium in Miami Beach, FL. Diaz made history becoming the first Filipino & second Southeast Asian to win the Miss Universe Crown beating 60 other contestants from around the world.

    She would be followed by Margie Moran (1973), Pia Wurtzbach (2015) & Catriona Gray (2018).

    July 29th, 1972: Kerry Anne Wells of Australia is crowned as the 21st Miss Universe titleholder, becoming Australia's first Miss Universe titleholder. The 21st Miss Universe Pageant was held at the Cerromar Beach Hotel in Dorado, Puerto Rico; the first edition being held outside the United States.

    Some notes: 1971 Miss Universe Georgina Rizk of Lebanon wasn't allowed to crown her successor due to fears of a potential terrorist attack. Instead, 1970 Miss Universe Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico & Miss Universe 1971 1st Runner-Up Toni Rayward of Australia both ended up crowning Wells as the 21st Miss Universe titleholder.
