I just found about his death on the Reddit trends.
May Mikhail Gorbachev rest in peace. He led the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. While overrall good, the dissolution of the Soviet Union was bad for some people because of what happened in the following years. The 90s were hell for Russia.

The 1990s were Hell for Russia in part because the Soviet economy was to tightly interconnected and in part because Russia had swindlers rather than genuine statesmen to lead it during this time. When oligarchs were looting the country while ordinary people were suffering, then it makes sense for Russians to hate the 1990s. Interestingly enough, now Russian oligarch wealth is likely going to be used to pay for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction, assuming that something will remain of Ukraine after the end of the current war, that is.

He was an amazing man, who tried to do his best for his nation and he wider world, during a time of great strife, and put his country and people before himself.

He was also not a blood thirsty or prideful man, he knew events were bigger than him or his policies.

Relevant BBC article here.

2nd March 1931-30th August 2022.

RIP.

Apparently he died in hospital after a long illness.

He tried save soviets from economical collapse, and doomed it.
Good, that he was not real commie - real beliver, like sralin, would start WW3,and those of us who would live, would live in Mad Max world.
But - he had very cunning plan - fake being democrat, unite with EU,and then rule over it.It could worked,if not for Reagan.

I think you're judging him too harshly.

He wasn't Yeltsin drunk driving a superpower. The US Secret Service intercepted a partially naked Boris Yeltsin on Pennsylvania Ave. while he was drunk and looking for a phone so that he could order a Pizza Hut pizza for delivery to just outside of the White House fences while he was a guest of the US Government in 1994.

Yeah ...

Yeah ...

Yet he still panned for surviving soviets to join with EU and take over.Władimir Bukowski found documents proving it when that drunkard Yeltsin let him come to Archives unnaware that he copied most of important docuents found there.

He was nof good guy who wanted liberate people, but smart crave bad guy who do not want die in war,and planned to conqer enemy in peaciful way.
Which he maybe could achieve - if soviets do not collapsed.Partially thanks to drunkard Yeltsin.
