May Mikhail Gorbachev rest in peace. He led the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. While overrall good, the dissolution of the Soviet Union was bad for some people because of what happened in the following years. The 90s were hell for Russia.

The 1990s were Hell for Russia in part because the Soviet economy was to tightly interconnected and in part because Russia had swindlers rather than genuine statesmen to lead it during this time. When oligarchs were looting the country while ordinary people were suffering, then it makes sense for Russians to hate the 1990s. Interestingly enough, now Russian oligarch wealth is likely going to be used to pay for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction, assuming that something will remain of Ukraine after the end of the current war, that is.

The US Secret Service intercepted a partially naked Boris Yeltsin on Pennsylvania Ave. while he was drunk and looking for a phone so that he could order a Pizza Hut pizza for delivery to just outside of the White House fences while he was a guest of the US Government in 1994.
