I believe that we may now be entering a cycle in which failed Communist States retain power and decide to take advantage of Capitalism by “regulating” it, whilst giving lots of benefits to those who submit and punishments to those who don’t
Eventually, the really persistent in Communism/Socialism types who’ve taken over or have great influence will become the Right Wing stereotypes they claim to despise all while going on about how much they are for the “Proletariat” or specifically the poor oppressed minorities and do similar economic policies as China
That or they turn the most productive citizens who just so happen to miss a bunch of checkmarks for underdog points and loyalty points into things like Doctors who have barely a choice to who they can treat or no, regardless if they’d be spending too much time and resources on a guy with a runny nose

At the end of the day authoritarians will always use the tool available to them to control as much things as possible.
Whether its religion, safety, civility, and even profit. Even if it would run contrary to everything to what they espouse, authoritarians will use whatever means they have to gain control.
The uygurs are just the latest victim in the CCP's narrative of guaranteeing "safety" to its populace/slave. We'll see whether Hong Kong wil join that list.

Right now China is the single most overleveraged country in the world, their accounts are even worse then ours were during subprime. Between national borrowing, shadow banks and a host of other things chinas economy is built on a house of cards. On top of that the price of Chinese labor is now more expensive and less skilled then Mexican labor....
Their in for a painful market correction at the very least, there is a reason why all the rich people in china are trying every trick in the book to get their money out.

Simply put, as the Personal MBA says, people make lots of “trade offs” and they’re not always good ones
People sacrificing their liberties for a perceived “prosperity” will find that the promise maybe just that, a promise and those can be broken or badly achieved or never achieved at all. The people you sacrifice your Liberty to will reduce your chances of prosperity
Give away freedoms of expression and speech and self-defence, for the supposed safety of others and self, you will be screwed by those who have the unlimited ability to do that stuff whilst shooting you
