One of the weaknesses of being an idealist, is failure to recognize the utility of supporting the less-bad option in a foreign conflict. The Nationalist leaders weren't particularly nice either, but they were nowhere near as bad a Mao or the Communists.

The Western World, guys with probably the only power to oppose China, won’t do so because of China’s economic power, the fact that a Communist Nation acting like a bunch of “Western Imperialists” is an Outside Context Problem and the fact that they have other issues to deal with that are being dealt with by idealistic Commies who’d probably side with China

There’s also the fact that they persisted with that dump One-Child-Policy for so long and decided that they should almost ALWAYS choose to abort the females

Because it’s only the males who have that cultural responsibility to take care of the family when they marry

Why wasn’t THAT abolished decades ago? The Chinese for a Communist Nation don’t have much in the way of welfare in the first place and need cheap workers, so why settle for something like that for so long

Uyghur men are getting imprisoned in reeducation centers en masse, area is getting flodded with Han colonists, unmarried Uyghur women are forced into marriages with Han men and married Uyghur women with detained husbands have Han ''relatives'' come over to ''help''. Not to mention that all public expressions of Uyghur culture are banned and official cultural indoctriantion is going into overdrive. And no one can do anything, as their resistance has been effectively crushed by overwhelming security force response.

Chinese government has been running a program of cultural unity for some time, with low key assault on Uyghur culture and Han colonization of their lands, similar to what they are doing in Tibet. Then Saudia Arabia upped the stakes by financing the radicalization of small fraction of Uyghurs, leading to some terrorist attacks, bringing the attention of Chinese government to Uyghurs. Then Saudi Arabia threw them under the bus to keep good relations with China (they deliberately used radicalised Uyghur expats as shock troops in Syria) and Chinese government rolled out program to stamp out Uyghurs, not unlike to what various emperors did to conquered people as China expanded through centuries. Compared to them, Romans were utter amateurs.
